4. internal rotation - ANSWER -when the fetus enters the pelvis head first, the head is usually oriented so
the occiput is toward the mothers right or left side
5. extension - ANSWER -as fetal head passes under the mothers symphysis pubis, it must change from
flexion to extension so it can properly negotiate the curve
6. external rotation - ANSWER -when head is born in extension, the shoulders are crosswise in the pelvis
and the head is somewhat twisted in relation to the shoulders
-the head turns farther to the side as the shoulders rotate within the pelvis
7. expulsion - ANSWER -the anterior shoulder then the posterior are born, followed by the rest of the
body
leopold's maneuver - ANSWER -determination of the fetal position and presentation by abdominal
palpitations
-helpful in locating the fetal back (best location for hearing FHR)
amniotomy procedure - ANSWER -HCP ruptures the membrane artificially
-color, odor, and amount of fluid are recorded
