Surah Muminoon tafseer:المؤمنون
- Mu'minoon means the believers.
- Makkan surah
- 23rd surah; juz 18
- The Surah takes its name from the first Ayat.
Time and revelation:
- Both the style (short and rhyming ayah) and the topics of the Surat indicate it is a makkan
Surat.
- Omar said: "This surah was revealed in my presence and I myself observed the state of the
prophet (Pbuh) during its revelation, when the revelation ended the prophet remarked: "On this
occasion ten such verses have been revealed to me that the one who measures up to them will
most surely enter paradise!" Then he recited the initial verses of the Surat.
Summary of the topics:
(1-11): The fact that the people who have accepted the message of the prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) have started acquiring such noble qualities of character is a practical proof of the truth
of the message.
(12-22): In this passage, attention had been drawn to the creation of man and the creation of the
universe to impress that the whole universe including man's own self is a clear proof of this
message; which invites people to accept taw-heed and life in the hereafter.
(23-54): The stories of prophet of former prophets and their communist have been cited as
historical evidence of the sureness of the truth of this message.
The stories prove the following points:
1) The objections and the downs of the مشركينare something the previous prophets have gone
through.
2) The punishments that took place for the previous prophets were the same that took place for
every prophets, the مشركينshould have taken it as a warning but they did not.
3) All prophets delivered only one message of Allah.
(55-67): Success in the worldly life is not a criterion of success in the sight of Allah (SWT)
(68-77):Arguments have been used to convince the مشركينthat prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a
true messenger.
(78-95):The مشركينwere invited to observe the signs of the universe and to themselves because
these are clear proofs of the true message of the prophet.
(96-97): The prophet has been told not to adopt any wrong way in retaliation to counteract the
evil ways of the مشركين, and to guard against the incitement of Shay-tan.
(97-118): In this including passage, the enemies of the truth have been more warmed that they
shall have to render an account in the hereafter and bear the punishment of the persecution of the
believers, therefore they should mend their ways.
