Surah Kahf tafseer:Introduction:
- Surah Kahf means cave, Surah Kahf is a makan surah, 18th surah in Quran, juz 15, the 16th juz
starts in it.
4 stories:
1st story: people of the cave, 2nd story: The person with the two gardens, 3rd story: Musa(A)
with al-khudr, 4th story: Dhul Qarnayn
Reason of revelation:
- Quraysh wanted to challenge the prophet, and since they had no knowledge of the books or
prophets sent before, they met with the jews and asked them about challenging questions for the
prophet (pbuh). The jews said: ask about story 1,3 and 4.
- The prophet promised to answer the questions but forgot to say inshallah, the revelation was
late and Allah (SWT) sent him the ayat that teaches him to say inshallah whenever he made a
promise or said he was going to do something.
- Inshallah means if you have to do something, you have the niyah, if Allah does not allow it, it
is not going to happen.
The people in the cave (9-26):
- They ran away because of their religion, their story in itself is a miracle
Ayat 1-5 (translation)
Lessons from the first story:
1) The people of the cave were young men who ran away from people because of religion. If you
have strong belief you can stay steadfast and fight for your belief.
2) The first thing they did while running away is ask Allah (SWT) for his mercy and guidance.
3) Allah (SWT) made them sleep a number of years, and he made it possible to survive in the
cave. The location of the cave made it possible for the sun rays to enter which saved their bodies.
During their sleep Allah (SWT) made them turn right and left. The dog was at the entrance of the
cave, they looked scary to whoever passed the cave.
4) When they woke up (not knowing they slept for that long), they sent someone to bring them
food that is ازكىmeaning halal food.
5) Their story was made known to the people and it was a sign of Allah's power, he is going to
resurrect you on the day of judgement.
6) Their number wasn't known for sure, most likely they were 7 and the dog was 8.
• Aya 23: Never say about anything: "I shall certainly do it tomorrow"
• Aya 24: (Except by adding): "If Allah wills, and remember your lord when you forget and say:
"Oh Allah lead me to a more guided way of truth!"
