What is Mcdonalds? Mcdonalds is a fast food chain with headquarters in Chicago, America. Thecompany is known for its burgers and other fast food items (Britannica, 2022)1. This company is
present all around the world in countries such as Canada, Italy, France and more (Mcdonalds)2.

Expansion details: The origin of Mcdonalds starts by 2 brothers who were the owners of a burger
and shake place in california. During this time, Kroc visited them and they agreed on a franchise
with the name of Mcdonalds. Within 7 years with everyone’s help and support, 130 restaurants
were open in the US. Kroc brought the chain from the brothers for $2.7 million. While more
restaurants were opening in the US Kroc also started seeing markets outside of the US, this is
how expansion started in 1961 (Ivy Panda)6.
Was the expansion successful? Mcdonalds expansion was very successful. The first contribution
that made them successful is their basic menu. The burger joint owned by the brothers sold
hotdogs, burgers, apple pie and other items, and the brothers soon decided to simplify their menu.
They decided to sell only burgers, fries and milkshakes, since fries and milkshakes were easy to
make they became popular. This contribution worked in their favor and made them successful
(The Franchise Institute)7. The brothers also created an assembly line in their kitchen, this line
worked well with the changed menu becuase they recipes were easy to make, learn and assemble.
