Neuroimaging is a way to see the structure and activity in the brain and nervous system

using magnetic quality imaging (Carlson & Burkett, 2017). The different ways to use

neuroimaging include electroencephalography (EEG), positron emission tomography (PET),

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

Neuroimaging can be used to view tumors or injuries to the brain and/ or body. Neuroimaging is

helpful at any age. Researches are able to see how the functions of the brain, along with a person

behavior, effect cognitive and emotional functions. (APA, n.d.). Functional MRI is becoming

both popular and more beneficial when it comes to understanding the brain functions of an

infant. Because of the images it gets from the blood flow within the brain, it is used to show

epilepsy, ADHD, and Autism. The scans of the brain in the infancy stage can identify potential

stressors.

If a child is complaining of frequent headaches or shows signs of a concussion, a parent

should contact their doctor for further testing. Children who play sports are more likely to have a

concussion. For children and adolescents, there has been mention of the limit of exposure to

radiation. Because of this, most providers agree that Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) should

be used in place of CT, when appropriate. It is important to understand the role imaging plays

and what the limitations are to ensure accurate results. Some limitations include the child’s age,

mental health, physical abilities, and appropriate test. Scanning a child can be difficult because

they tend to be anxious and find it difficult to sit still. It is also difficult for an infant to

understand that a large machine is not going to hurt them. It is easier to explain to a teenager

what is going to happen, then it is an infant. It is also important to know if the child suffers from
