PART A


1. Describe the ways in which the widespread adoption of clean cookstoves will address the

global environmental issues discussed in Chapter 9.


By adopting clean cookstoves, some global environmental issues can be addressed since

globally over 40% of people make use of conventional methods posing danger to their health and

environment as well. Therefore global alliances have adopted a strategic plan to make 100

families adopt clean cook methods by 2020. This initiative established a global market for clean

cooking methods by identifying and addressing any barriers that hinder the production and use of

clean cooking methods in developing countries. This will eradicate the use of cookstoves in the

open which emit lot soot that is dangerous to both humans and the environment.


The adoption of clean cookstoves does not emit any greenhouses gas or suit thus

benefiting the health of those using it and those in the surrounding(Simion,2014). Soot can travel

thousands of miles in the atmosphere, absorbs heat, and settles on glaciers, speeding up the

melting environment. By adopting these new clean methods we could see a decrease in global

warming as soot washes out within days or weeks. This would help to slow the climate change

and ozone depletion and we would be in a position to save and prolong human life. Moreover,

the adoption of the clean stoves provided better means for testing clean emissions and efficiency

standards for cookstoves. The use of clean stoves generally enhances economic, health, and d

environmental benefits (Martin & Roe, 2016).

issues of economic development and poverty discussed in Chapter 9. (15 marks)
