Le rôle du système immunitaire dans la régulation de l’homéostasie du milieu interne est de maintenir la
stabilité du milieu interne en dépit des fluctuations du milieu externe (Campbell, 2012). Donc, le système
immunitaire défend l’organisme contre les infections comme lorsqu’il est envahi par un organisme
étranger (virus, bactérie), celui-ci va donc réagir pour s’en débarrasser, car il rejette les éléments du non
soi dans le but de maintenir l’homéostasie du milieu interne. Notamment, lors d’une transfusion
sanguine, l’organisme du receveur peut soit accepter soit rejeter le sang du donneur dépendant du
typage globulaire et sérique des deux personnes, car le système immunitaire du receveur va reconnaître
la présence de substances qui lui sont étrangères, appelés antigènes (Héma-Québéc, 2015).
