The first part of the course, "The Sociology of Science," Sessions 1 to 12, examines science as an institutionalized culture that produces and explains knowledge about the world using sociological and other social scientific frameworks.
Science and technology as social institutions, belief-systems, and practices are examined in this course, with a focus on how cultural, political, and socio-economic dynamics influence scientific thought and technical applications. Using sociological and other social scientific frameworks, the first section of the course ('The Sociology of Science,' Sessions 1 to 12) views science as an institutionalized culture that explains and creates knowledge about the world.
