Work Experience Review

Week 1
The first week of work was going through induction where I got shown around the sports
centre, where things are placed in an emergency. Also i got a booklet about being a casual
leisure assistant in a leisure centre where I could find extra information.

Week 2
The first week of the work I had to regularly check the equipment for any damages and at
the end of the day to clean which was a new experience.

Week 3
From the booklet, I read and I had prepared some questions to ask. I ended up getting
information off some of the higher ranked employees and I asked what I should be aiming
towards and most importantly some guidance and knowledge to get where they are.

Week 4
I helped out setting up equipment for the Alzhiemer’s course which was a presentation for all
staff.

Overall view
I enjoyed the work experience as I had the ability to see what it is like in the workplace from
the management perspective and what it is all about. What I liked the most about the work
experience is that I had the ability to find out the truth of different sectors from the managers
and other staff, which was a big eye-opener. Which gives a better direction where to go and
where not to go.

What I didn’t like about work placement was cleaning and maintenance as there is a lot to
do. Thanks to this work experience, it has given me a possibility that I could go into it as an
assistant manager and work up in future if something happens. I think what was a little
unprepared, I think that it was a little rushed, as the managers had a lot to do and things on
top, which at the time they were unprepared for.

Strengths
First strength that I can take from my work experience is that I have managed to come on
time and be always organised. For example, getting there 15 minutes early, have a booklet,
pen ready to take notes in case anything so that I don’t miss out on anything. Which is really
good because it shows that you are committed to what you are doing which others can
notice.
Second strength I have managed on achieving one of my aims and objectives. I have
managed to increase my confidence and have the ability to work within a new environment
and groups of people and I had to adapt and work with that environment. As I was out of my
comfort circle and in order to get more confidence I had to do things that I was not used to in
order to become more confident and comfortable with it. For example working with staff
together in groups tasks like setting up equipment, cleaning and maintenance and other
things.
