U16A1 P1 Assignment
P1- Describe the internal and external factors to consider when planning the
human resource requirements of an organisation.
There are many factors that have to be considered when planning the human resource
requirements of an organisation. These factors are split into two different kinds: internal
and external factors. In this assignment, these internal and external factors are to be
described during the planning of human resource management at Monoux.
Internal Factors
Internal factors are variables that occur from within a business. These factors would relate
to how a business would change in order to cope with new methods of operating and
meeting demands, such as new implemented technology. Businesses would have to analyse
their workforce and their skills in order to determine what skills are needed to manage with
the increased demand of new aspects, such as machine operation knowledge skills. These
new changes in the business’ workforce would mean that the total number of employees
would either contract or expand, depending on the type of demand that exists within the
business. Analysing the skills and abilities of the workforce means that the business in
question can either become capital intensive or labour intensive. This reveals the fact on
whether or not machinery or genuine workers will be used in the production process. For
example, Monoux is a labour-intensive business whose staff members are primarily used in
the production process.
Monoux uses internal factors when planning the human resource requirements by looking
at the organisational needs of the college. The HR director at Monoux would be responsible
for discovering if there were any increase in demand within the different departments of
the college. In order to compensate for these demands, Monoux would have to contract or
expand their workforce, meaning that they would have to decrease or increase the number
of members in their workforce. An example of this occurring in Monoux is when the fact of
the number of members within each department is considered. There are noticeably less
members of staff in the Digital pathway at Monoux than the Enterprise and Management
pathway, which shows that Monoux’s workforce within the Digital pathway had been
contracted in order to suit the necessary demands, whilst contrastingly the workforce in
Monoux’s Enterprise and Management Pathway had been expanded.
Another internal factor Monoux uses when planning the human resource management of
the college by assessing and analysing the skills requirements of Monoux’s workforce. This is
a vital part of human resource management because Monoux can be able to build up a
profile of the list of training, qualifications, and experience Monoux’s workforce has
individually. Monoux must measure the levels of the workforce’s abilities in order to plan for
any future training or recruitment that may need to be done, as well keeping track of these
skills since they change alongside the nature and type of work. Monoux does this by
regularly training their staff in first-aid or fire safety in the event of an emergency or
accident, which are then noted and considered.
