Scenario: I have been recruited as an Assistant Officer in the department of
event management at UKCBC. UKCBC has a plan of hosting an online event
for students of BTEC level 3 in the Dubai campus, which will take place within
the first week of June 2020. As an assistant officer of event management, I
have been given the task of preparing a detailed report outlining the benefits
of teams and leadership effectiveness which would help UKCBC to achieve
their desired aims and objectives as a college.
What is a team?
A team is basically a group of individuals working together to achieve a
common objective. There are various types of teams and aren’t necessarily
have to be in a work place. Developing teams means working in a team
alongside other individuals to make a major contribution, take more
responsibility in the team as a team member or a team leader.
The different types of teams:
Formal:
These are teams which are set up by the company itself with a specific goal
in mind. Usually some rules are enforced on these teams on such as when
must the team meet. Last but not least, it’s a team that has various ranks for
each one of the team members. A good example of this would be the formal
team of our college (UKCBC) would be the college’s staff members.
Informal:

These teams are a bunch of people that haven’t been officially set up by an
organization and recognize the benefit of working together as a team in
order to meet their given objectives. Unlike formal teams, these teams don’t
really have a hierarchy so each individual can work on the tasks equally. A
good example of this team would be a group of friends in a class room that
form a team to work on together on a project.

Permanent team:

These are teams that work together continuously. Permanent teams don’t
get disbanded once the given task is completed . Within a permanent team,
roles and patterns become established. A good example of this would be a
college’s basketball team.

Temporary team:
These are teams set up for a particular purpose or task. Unlike a permanent
team, these teams are disbanded upon the completion of the task. While

,setting up a temporary team, its essential to outline the exact nature of the
project in order to ensure that its clearly understood by everyone that what’s
the exact purpose behind the team. It is also important when setting up a
temporary team to focus a lot on the allotting of roles within the team so
that everyone has an idea of what’s exactly demanded out of them. A good
example of this team would be a temporary team within a college that was
set up for a particular reason or purpose, like greeting new students that
come into the college and give them a campus tour.
What benefits do teams have on an organizations
Firstly, having teams gives the organization a lot of benefits. Here are some
of the reasons as to why and how they benefit organizations:
Implementing change:
Teams within organizations consist of various types of individuals, hence this
element of diversity will help bring about a change between the other
members of the team and allow them to acquire a wider range of skills and
also expose them to new thoughts and ideas which will allow them to climb
the ladder as far as their career is concerned.
Identification and Development of talent:
When being put into teams, the members of the team can recognize the
various talents which they possess by executing the tasks and activities
assigned to them by the team leader. Because they are being exposed to all
the different elements of their working environment, they are able to identify
their talents and skills. Furthermore, the team leader could choose to give
them tasks which would strengthen the team members skills to further
enhance and develop that their skills, abilities and talents.
Contribution to organizational productivity:
Being put into teams helps organization in increasing their productivity levels
because each person will be put to work on a role which would compliment
them and it would also bring out their talents, skills and abilities. Being
placed into teams enhances an organizations’ productivity levels also
because bigger tasks will now be split and divided into smaller tasks which
will give the team the opportunity to completely focus their abilities in an
efficient manner in order to meet the adequate results. Moving on, team
managers set targets for the members of heir team to go behind and then
they also monitor and supervise the teams performance based on the
criteria and if their team is actually aspiring to achieve the required target or
not.

,Reduction of alienation:
Teams in organizations benefit the organizations employees a lot because
teams has the ability to reduce alienation and assist the new employees
assimilate with their colleagues and establish a stronger bond with them.
Moving on, this is definitely ideal for the individuals which find difficulty in
initiating conversations with new people that they come across and meet
and the presence of a team will surely help them have a reason to
communicate and interact their team mates and start building a bond of
friendship from that point onwards.

Fostering innovation:
When working in a team to meet a particular objective or goal, people have
the chance or the opportunity to come up with new ideas while they
brainstorm and foster their innovation to advance and develop themselves
within an organization. This would definitely help when working in a team for
a longer time duration as it will help in establishing a solid chemistry and
bond between the team members and allow them to be able to understand
each other in a better way.
Sharing expertise:
Working in a team for an organization comes to use when the team is
assembled with individuals that possess different expertise levels. This will
definitely help all of the members with higher experience levels to mentor,
teach and guide the beginners and amateurs regarding the field which they
are working in and also provide them with various tips and tricks on they can
further climb up the ladder as far as their career is concerned. Furthermore,
the presence of young team members alongside older or senior members
would be an ideal combination as it would bring the expertise of the older
team members combined with the younger generation’s new, fresh and
modern ides. This will surely help both the demographics to take lessons
from each other, learn from each other and enhance their skills and at the
same time, move towards accomplishing the firms goals and objectives.
Team working skills
Creative and innovative:
I see myself as a very creative and innovative person as far as my work is
concerned. This allows me to come up with fresh and innovative thoughts
and ideas that help me in enhancing my teams workflow and make them
distinct in their own way from the other crowd with their fresh, innovative
and unique ideas. To add to this, I’m constantly trying to get my team to

, think outside the box and I also help them in transforming their ideas from a
dream into reality where in I ensure that these ideas are implemented to
perfection.
Decision making abilities:
I would say that my decision making abilities are rather high as I am able to
stay composed and make the right decisions at the right times based on
what the situation has to offer to be able to impact the situations in the most
effective way. I am also an individual that doesn’t crack under pressure as I
have the ability to work under high levels of pressure and also completely
analyze and think before making a decision which I intend to make and I
never make a decision based on emotions and feelings or in a rush as I
believe that majority of the time, decisions made based on emotions and
feelings or in a rush lead to complete devastation. To add to this, I ensure to
consult my team members at all times and take into consideration their
opinion to check and see if the decision that I am about to make is approved
by them before I actually go ahead and make the decision.
Productive:
I am very productive with the way I get my work done and I ensure that all
my work is completed well ahead of the deadline. I am also very efficient in
the way I plan out my activities and tasks and I divide them into smaller
tasks for myself as well as for my team members to avoid burdening my self
or them with a big task which might seem as a rather difficult task to get
done at first. I also ensure that my team is completing the assigned work on
time and motivate them to be more productive with the way they work in
order for the work to get completed faster.
Confidence and positive attitude:
When it comes to communicating with my team members, I am very
confident and I help them in establishing a similar level of confidence by
communicating to them in an effective manner and making them feel
comfortable with the team and the overall environment surrounding them. I
also ensure to have a positive attitude towards my work and most
importantly towards my team members to motivate them to work on their
tasks and I never ever show any sort of negativity towards their workflow or
working ethic in order to achieve the best possible results.
Contribution to goals
My contribution towards UKCBC’s goals heavily revolves around me being a
person filled with creativity and innovation and also one that comes up with
new and fresh ideas which would have a positive impact on the college as a
