Unit 12 Assignment 2
Amazon, Next
Opportunities to compare and select providers
Amazon
A benefit to the customer of being able to compare and select providers is that it means the
business will want to have good and competitive prices and products. For example, if Argos are
selling a product for £2, Amazon will want to either match that price of selling it for slightly
cheaper.
Next
Next is a retailer that sells mainly clothes, so they have competition of other online clothing
retailers, so they need to provide something extra (for example, better online customer service,
prices, quality etc) to be able to compete.
M1
This is a benefit because it means customers are able to find the best price and quality, so
they are getting the best that they can. This is better online, because it is quick and easy to
compare and select providers on websites such as pricespy, whereas to do this in store you
would have to go to other stores to be able to see their prices too.
Availability and more comprehensive and up to date product information
Amazon
Amazon products have descriptions written by the seller, these are usually detailed and up to
date. They also usually have very detailed descriptions, for example on the technical aspects for
technology or the measurements for clothing, so the customer can access this information on
the product easily and make sure it is what they are looking for. It also lets you know what is
available, for example if the product is nearly gone, or only lets you choose products that are in
stock when it comes to which colour to size.
Next
On the online Next store, they have a size guide for each clothing item, which gives detailed
descriptions on measurements for each size they offer, as well as each product having a
description which tells you the materials the product is made of and extra information such as if
the waistband is adjustable. It also tells you the availability of the product, for example if they
are nearly out of the product and there aren’t many left. It also lets you see if your size is in
stock, as if your size isn’t it usually either doesn’t show up in the options or shows but you are
unable to choose that size.
M1
This is a benefit because customers are able to see the details on a product before buying, so
they know if it is what they are looking for and if it should fit, etc. Offline stores do not usually
offer as much detail on products, because labels cannot fit much information on them and so
online stores offer an advantage with this. Offline stores also don’t let you know as easily and
quickly the availability of a product, you will have to look through all the items to see if they have
your size and ask an employee to check stock which can take time.
