P3. EXPLAIN POSSIBLE INFLUENCES ON DIETARY INTAKE.
In this task, I would be explaining the possible influences on the dietary intake of my case
studies.
Health factors: These are factors that influence how well and how long we live, everything
from our education to our environment has an effect on our health. Health factors can be
used to lengthen and add quality to the life of individuals
Dietary habits: These are decisions of individuals regarding the food they eat. Proper
dietary consumption requires vitamins, proteins and fats, dietary habits play a significant role
in an individual’s life.
Lifestyle: Can be defined as adaptable behaviour and way of life that influences an
individual’s health and wellbeing eg smoking, alcohol, exercise.
Economic: This affects or influences an individual’s financial status, this includes education,
employment status and income.
Socio-cultural: These are cultural and religious influences that have an impact on how we
live and go on our day to day lives.
Education: These influences are the number of skills and knowledge a person has acquired
has a huge impact on their lifestyle, diet and going on their day to day activities.
According to the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (2021) Evidence suggests that those
who achieve a higher level of educational attainment are more likely to engage in healthy
behaviours and less likely to adopt unhealthy habits. This is particularly true in relation to
physical activity, diet, smoking and sexual activities.
Now in relation to my case studies they include ;
Case study 1 Mr Kumar
Health factors
Mr Kumar has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is a common type of diabetes. The
body does not produce insulin well enough. Mr Kumar’s doctor told him that his diabetes is
not well managed and he has started to develop coronary heart disease as well .he also cut
his shin which is taking longer to heal. When a Diabetic person gains injuries it takes a very
long time for the injury to heal, whilst being prone to other infections as well.
Dietary habits
Mr Kumar goes to a community centre run by a charity called a home link, they provide hot
lunch for older people in the area. Mr Kumar does not cook but he joins his daughter and her
family for a hot meal every evening. She cooks traditional Indian food with ghee, which is
clarified butter high in saturated fats and her puddings are also very sweet.
Lifestyle
Mr Kumar takes walks three times a week to meet his friends and has lunch, Other than that
no exercises.
The community centre Mr Kumar goes to keep close contact with the GP and other social
services to give centred care, advice and treatment to individuals like Mr Kumar.
Economic: Mr Kumar is a pensioner. His daughter and her family provide his meal so he
doesn't need to pay the cost of his meals. The community centre also provides some of his
meals. He also lives in a granny flat attached to his daughter’s house.
Social-Cultural.
Mr Kumar's religious beliefs do not permit him to eat pork, meat and eggs, He also loves to
go out and eat food with his friends.
Education
Mr Kumar takes lessons from the community-based service support. They also provide him
with a nutritionist who creates his meal pattern and advises him what and what not to eat.

Homelink the charity that runs the community centre helps to provide a break for families
