2.1 Identify the main points of local airport rules and regulations.
 COSHH- COSHH is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations
(COSHH 2002) the employers are required to either prevent or
reduce or at the very least control exposure to hazardous
substances in order to prevent ill health to their workers. COSHH
covers substances like chemicals, fumes, dust in work environment,
acids, liquids used in metal works, gases and asphyxiating gases
(An asphyxiate gas is a nontoxic gas which reduces or displaces the
normal oxygen concentration in breathing air. Breathing of oxygen-
depleted air can lead to death suffocation).

Steps to report hazards under the COSHH regulations:
1. Identify the hazard.
2. Perform a risk assessment in prevention to harm.
3. Provide control measures.
4. Enforce control measures.
5. Maintain control measures in good working conditions.
6. Briefing employees, provide information about the hazard and
train the employees.
7. Establish emergency plans.
Employees should look for signage, train the employees and try fix
the problem. All warning signs come under COSHH.

 RIDDOR- RIDDOR is the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and
Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 which is basically to
record and report an accident, incident or near miss. This regulation
requires employees, the self-employed and those in control of the
premises to report specified workplace incidents. RIDDOR only
requires you to report accidents if they happen out or in connection
with work. RIDDOR keeps the record of deaths and injuries and must
be reported only when there has been an accident which caused an
injury at the workplace.

 Noise at work Regulations (1989)- The noise at work regulations

risk to their employees’ health by controlling the noise they are
exposed to whilst at work. The aim of the Noise Regulations is to
ensure that the workers' hearing is protected from excessive noise
at their place of work, which could cause them to lose their hearing
and/or to suffer from permanent damage to the ears.
2.2 Describe the procedures for fire reporting.
There are different types of safety procedures regarding fire in the
aviation industry. Special procedures are needed for emergencies such as
serious injuries, explosion, flood, poisoning, fire, release of radioactivity
and chemical spills. A fire emergency report is a written document which
includes the action to be taken by all staff in the event of fire and the
arrangements for calling the fire brigade. It can include any relevant
information in relation to the fire report. Here are some examples:
 Operations nearest fire alarm call point.
 Leave the building by the nearest available exit
 Report to person in charge of assembly point.
 Do not use lifts.
 Do not take risks in the workplace.

If a domestic terminal fire takes place one should:
 Inform the airport duty manager and air traffic controller.
 Locate the fire.
 Call the firefighting services.
 If possible, tackle the fire using an appropriate extinguisher.
 Raise the alarm.
 Evacuate the area.
 Search the building-by security staff
 Emergency procedures
There are emergency points located around the airport one should
familiarize themselves with their location.
 Emergency points may differ at different point.
 Ensure all access route is clear of the emergency exit.
In the event of fire make use that all the staff are safe and secure and
away from the fire and run towards the assembly point, including ensure
that the head knows where the fire has lightened. And somehow manage
to call the fire brigade as soon as possible. Help all the staff and
passengers to get out of the designated area. Help the organization
considering drawing up a simple plan showing the location of hazardous
fire. You must also provide suitable forms of emergency lighting in the
area. You must make sure there are enough emergency exits for everyone
to escape quickly and keep emergency doors and escape routes
unobstructed and clearly marked. Nominate people to take control and
decide which other key people you need, such as a nominated incident
controller, someone who can provide technical and other site-specific
information. Clearly identify important items like shut-off valves and
electrical isolator’s etc. Employee must train their teammate in
emergency procedures. Don’t forget the needs of people with disabilities
or special assistance and vulnerable workers. Work should not resume
after an emergency if danger remains.
