, I will be writing a case study which will critically review the current CSR record of this major.
This case study will be looking at how a major private sector business runs its CSR operations.
The case study will conclude of an explanation of the impact of the business behavior and its
help in the local community. This explanation will also have brief talks on how stakeholders are
impacted. It will also include an analysis of how the business’s financial, employment and
diversity policies, across its entire operation, impacts on its CSR record. Finally, there will be an
evaluation of the potential impact of poor corporate governance on the business. This case
study will show the following things; individuality of thought, good analytical skills with a
reasoned evaluation that shows a clear conclusion justified by balanced arguments, and is
supported by good use of research evidence. The research evidence collected will be
comprehensive, well collated and well presented.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR): CSR is a management concept which businesses tend to
follow to ensure that their operations are ethical and beneficial to society. It is where
companies take into account environmental and social concerns regarding the way of their
business and interaction with stakeholders. It allows a business to demonstrate that they are
interested in wider social issues, rather than those which affect their profits. By including CSR
aspects in a business, you are giving back to the community and building a positive brand
around your company.
A CSR report is a report published by companies themselves with intention of sharing up to
date CSR actions taken and results. The report concludes of environmental, social, ethical and
economic impact and assesses how those that revolve around a company are affected by the
companies' operation. A CSR report allows stakeholders to know of a company's actions and
commitments regarding how their implementing principles of CSR into their everyday
operations. A social audit is a review of company’s accomplishments, actions and principles
regarding social responsibility and the impact of company on the society. Social audits are for
the purpose of improving the ethical and social performance of a business and also aid in
measuring and understanding a company’s social and ethical performance.
My chosen company: Kenco
This case study will look at Kenco and its policy of Coffee vs Gangs. Kenco is a coffee company
which sells coffee in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Originally known as the Kenyan Coffee
company, they started distributing coffee to Britain and soon after, re-established themselves
as Kenco. The owner of Kenco coffee is Jacobs Douwe Egberts. Kenco use 100% arabica beans.
This is because aromatic and distinctive characteristics guarantee a superior taste for its coffee.
The company sources their coffee beans from Brazil, Costa Rica, Columbia, Peru, Ethiopia,
Vietnam and Indonesia. Unlike other coffee companies such as Starbucks and Costa, Kenco
doesn’t have its own shop but rather sells its products across all supermarkets.
