Origins of the Universe
 All Christians believe God created the world
 The genesis account describes how God made the world in 7 days
 Fundamentalists believe the creation story in genesis describes exactly how the world was created.
 They believe God created the world in 7 days with him resting on the seventh day and this account is word for
word true as it was inspired by God.
 However, many believe that ‘days’ could stand for a longer period of time.
 Liberal Christians believe the bible is people’s ideas about things that happened so God created the world but the
creation in genesis is not word for word true.
 They believe God created the Big Bang and this can be proved by the direct bible reference ‘let there be light’ and
that the order God created life in genesis is the same order as the theory of evolution.

The origins of human life
 Genesis 2 account- Adam was made from dust on the ground and God breathed into his nostrils to bring him to
life. Eve was then made from Adams rib.
 Some fundamentalists believe women are inferior to men as they were created differently.
 Fundamentalists also believe genesis 2 is literally true and the whole human race is descended from Adam and
Eve.
 Liberal Christians say it should not be taken literally and is not a scientific account but is designed to show humans
are special to God.
 God created humans in his image to govern his earthly kingdom and have a special relationship with him.
 Supporting bible quote: ‘created in the image of God’

What Heaven is like
 In heaven there will be no more suffering and you will reside with God and have eternal happiness if you’re a
pure soul.
 Supporting bible quote: ‘God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or
crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’
 In revelation 4:2-6 God is shown sitting on a throne in a magnificent heaven which is bright reflecting happiness.
 It doesn’t matter about having power but to seek eternity in heaven and live a good life and have a pure soul is the
most important thing to reside with God.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘what good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul.’

Stewardship
 Stewardship is a special responsibility to protect and care for the earth.
 Most Christians believe that we are stewards of the Earth because in the bible it states ‘you are but my tenants’
which shows God has loaned his creation to us live in and we cannot do whatever we want to it as it belongs to
God.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘everything under heaven belongs to me’
 Dominion is the idea humans were given the power and authority to rule over the world.
 A minority of Christians believe in dominion and believe they are in charge of the earth so they can do whatever
they want with it.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘Fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish and the birds… over every living thing’

Use and Abuse of the Earth
 Christians believe the world is only on loan to us and humans should look after it.
