Unit 6: Preparing for Employment in Travel & Tourism.

, Working Environm

Location- Having a good work location contributes to
feeling better as they enjoy their work environment a
contribute to them working harder. For example a ho
representative in a resort will feel better from good w
and a holiday atmosphere making the customers hap
Working conditions- Working conditions at the work
to be up to standard for example cleanliness levels. E
must make sure there are positive working condition
members, because not good working conditions coul
employees not wanting to work and having low work
motivation.

, Hours of work- Working time regulations depend on different
ages as for everyone over 18 the general rule is to do a 48 hours
working week with five weeks of holiday and for people aged 16-
18 they should have a half hour break when working over
4.5hours and can work no more than 40h/week. By having set
hours of work it makes the workplace more productive as
everyone is allowed breaks and days off/ holidays so they don’t
overwork and can focus better. For example at Hays Travel
working hours are set within the government rules, so therefore
their staff members are motivated as they have regular breaks.
Health and safety- There are specific health and safety
regulations relating to different travel and tourism sectors for
example when food is served at the restaurant there needs to be
a high levels of hygiene, right chemical levels in swimming pools
at resorts, all staff to be DBS checked and lifeguards to be around
any water area at all times. Safety procedures are important for
an effective workplace to make sure all employees and
guests/customers are safe at all times and the workplace is not
getting close down because of poor health and safety standards
