Induction
Inductions are implemented by organisations to help new recruits ease into their new job in the first few days. During
induction days, new employees will be introduced to other employees they will be working as well as be given a tour
around the workplace. The purpose of the induction is to ensure the effective integration of staff into/across the
business for the benefit of both the employees and the organisation. Here is an effective induction plan which
Amazon can use:

Benefits of a good induction programme and costs of a poor induction programme

, Stage of induction
Pre-employment is a stage which will follow right after an employee have been hired from the company. Each
successful applicant will be emailed a welcome/pre-employment pack which contains useful information about
Amazon. There will be tips on how to socialise with each other within the groups of new starters. The pack will also
contain information about the upcoming induction days: the starting day, time and timetable (SEE TABLES BELOW).
This will help make the induction successful for the new starters within Amazon because it will allow them to
understand what exactly will be happening during the induction programme as well as be able to adapt to Amazon
and their culture/environment. By giving welcome packs through email, it will allow the new starters to feel valued
and respected as well as have a good first impression and relationship with Amazon. Also, by giving tips on how to
socialise with other groups of new starters, it will allow the new starters to have a good relationship and
communication with each other. This will allow the new starters to partake in the induction programme more
confidently and comfortably. As a result, when officially working for Amazon, the new employees will be motivated
to further progress in their career and be happy working in their environment, allowing an increase in work rate for
Amazon. Therefore, pre-employment stage is a factor which will allow the induction to be successful. To conclude, I
believe this factor will positively impact Amazon because they will be able to help the new employees understand
their role, the department they work in and Amazon as a business in general. This is because of the welcome/pre-
employment pack Amazon have produced, allowing the induction to be successful. By doing this, it will allow the
new employees to adapt to the business a lot more efficiently, clearly showing Amazon are able to familiarise the
new employees with the physical environment/culture. This will allow Amazon to build a good relationship with their
new employees, which can result to an increase in work rate. Furthermore, this will impact the new employees
positively too because they will be able to understand the responsibilities of their job. For example, they will be able
to understand the health and safety factors they will need to consider as well as the contract of employment duties.
This will allow them to be a lot more efficient and effective when undertaking their role. However, if Amazon were to
not consider this factor, there will be many costs to it such as the new employees having limited understanding of
Amazon as well as their role. This will lead to the new employee not being efficient enough within their job role,
allowing Amazon to have a decrease in work rate. Also, by not considering this factor it will result to a lack of
engagement. This is because new employees will have a limited understanding, meaning they will not be confident
and will struggle to adapt to Amazon’s environment/culture. As a result, these new employees will not have a good
relationship with Amazon and will not be motivated to work hard which can result to them leaving to work for an
alternative company such as eBay or Alibaba. Therefore, this factor of the induction programme is significantly
impactful and important for both Amazon and their new employees.

First day/week will involve filling in any gaps in the group of new starter’s knowledge. Each new employee will be
paired with an experienced member of staff. During this first week individual objectives and timescales will be set,
for the new employees to be working during their probation period. How performance assessment will be conducted
must be clearly explained. Also, Amazon will make sure that each new employee understands the work policies,
practices and appropriate behaviour. It is very important to be easily accessible during this induction period so new
employees can reach with any questions or concerns. Finally, at the end of the week, Amazon will provide a form
sheet, asking for feedback on the induction process which will help them to continuously improve their induction
process. This will help make the induction successful for the new starters within Amazon because by filling in any
