First of all, what is 3D Modelling? 3D Modelling is used in most industries nowadays to create a real-
life structure of what a building or something as simple as a new phone design. But then there are
also companies who use these 3D designs mostly for marketing to show their investors ideas of what
they are planning to do. But there can be some who make these 3D models which are included
within a game spec or something along those lines.
Applications of 3D
Various different industries use 3D Modelling, they all use it
for both the same and different things. It can be as simple as
making a small design idea that they then build an entire
game out of or simply design a city block concept. All these
different things can be created in a program to then be
brought into a real life scenario. Some good examples that
can be given is when a car or some vehicle companies use a 3D modelling program to create a design
for the new vehicle they want to release or create some type of model for. The reason as to why
using a 3D model is good for this specific company would be that it helps them to get a good
representation of what it could look like with the exterior and interior features. As well as including a
lot of the minor features which could include how the moulds would look and how it would be
configured in a real life build.
There are also other things that are built within 3D Modelling in
terms of vehicles, for example there could be a plane manufacturer
who wants an idea built and they are able to do that with the
software available. As a good example, they can design and build
an engine of some sort which can then be looked at to see how it
can be made smaller or larger depending on the aircraft size.
However, within the software other features can be included to
test the design. Those being drop features and then depending on
what software you could do other tests which would be more efficient and test worthy for a plane
engine.
Then in terms of architects they could also be using 3D Modelling software to create their ideal
design to show to a customer or client. With this example, it can be both the architecture for the
inside of a building but also the outside. It can depend on what the project entails and what sort of
concept idea they are going for. In terms of how it would benefit architects and what sorts of tools
they would use can vary. They mainly use 3D Modelling as it saves time but then it also gives them a
clear understanding of what the project is going to look like from such an early stage without having
to build anything in real life. The main tools which are
commonly known are that they use the precision of the 3D
Modelling to understand the scale and tangibility of an
object. Regarding the benefits for architects it just allows
them to create an actual design which they can then show to
the client and the investors. But in the long run it saves them
a lot of time and money.
