TASK 2 – P1

Concerns
Time Spent Playing Games
The time that people spend on a game can differ from person to person. There are the
casual gamers who may only play 5 hours a week, but then there could be the expert
gamers who play for 40+ hours a week. The time spent playing a game can vary also
depending on the type of game being played as well. In contrast, there are also other
activities that take up a lot of time that could cause you to be distant towards family and
friends, one could be doing your homework now there is so much homework being given
out that you barely have time to yourself. There are clear differences between playing video
games and how much homework you have but if you were to game for 3hours a day that
would be considered bad whereas doing homework for 3hours a day is considered good
because its educational, but gaming can help with education and other knowledge that
some people may not understand. In hind sight gaming can get to a point of being bad if you
are constantly playing but it can help with certain skills and lessons.

Social Isolation
Social Isolation what does this actually mean? According to Google it means “it is a state of
complete or near-complete lack of contact between an individual and society” well when
gaming in some aspect you are socialising constantly and making new friends which you
then talk to most days and have proper conversations with. The thing that doesn’t make
sense is that people believe those who sit inside gaming all the time don’t have any good
social skills which is simply not true, they may not be as confident talking face-to-face with
people, but they are able to have a normal conversation. Gaming online and talking to
people doesn’t mean you have social isolation because you are constantly interacting with
different individuals and learning many different techniques when it comes to talking to
other individuals.

Costs
Cost is always a big issue no matter what it is. Everything costs money not just gaming. Sure,
there are games that cost £50 at release but there are gyms that cost £45 a month so is cost
really that big of a deal when you look at these other factors? I don’t think so at least. How
about comparing every day items to a game, a toaster for example costs £30 that’s the same
price as the new Spiderman game. So, can we really complain about cost?
There are many ways to look at the price of things. With gaming it can be very expensive
especially if you are a PC gamer because of how expensive it is to upgrade certain
parts/components. But if you look at it this way if people want to spend that much on a
game they will because as they say “its my money I will spend It how I want” that’s a true
statement because if they want to spend it on games that are way too over-priced that’s
their choice.

, TASK 2 – P1

Separating Gameplay from Real Life
There has been a lot of news outlets that blame gaming for a lot of things those being that it
affects young people and can influence them badly. They also claim that a lot of video
games have caused them to become violent and do things that are horrific. But these news
outlets have always blamed something!
Separating gameplay from real life in my opinion isn’t that difficult to decipher, however
that’s just me personally. Sometimes there are people who become way too engrossed in
the game that they don’t know what is real and what isn’t. This is common, but does It really
make people that violent surely there must be an underlining problem that is triggered for
them to become that rage induced. Why do people become so dependant on games? Is it
some type of escape from reality? Yes. Most young people use video games as some excuse
to get away from their life that they may end up believing these games are “real” when they
aren’t. Gaming is simply a fantasy world and because these people are the boss in this game
and they are happy they want to believe so badly that its real.
But there is always the factor of addiction to the game. There are some who have become
addicted in believing that games are real life and that they can do things that happen in the
games. Which obviously they can’t. The whole aspect of not being able to tell if something is
real or not can also depend on how long you have been playing without sleep, a break or
even a toilet or food break.

Benefits
Development of Thinking and Strategy Skills
The development of different skills can range depending on what type of game you may be
playing but they are all very beneficial to both the mental aspect of life and it means that
you have some experience in knowing how to overcome certain scenarios. For example,
problem solving is a type of strategy that can be used in either a game situation or for some
team building activity in school. There are also some aspects of thinking that can help those
being reaction times and how fast someone can react in order to stop something or to fix
something. These different thinking and strategy skills can help with understanding different
situations but in terms of gaming it’s a great way to train your mind into knowing how these
things work and what the outcome could potentially be.

Fun
The fun aspect of gaming is that there are many different ways it can be fun not just it being
entertaining. There is also the social aspect, challenging, stress relief and many more
different things that gaming helps not just being “fun”. However, gaming is fun and does
help with reducing stress and it can create an alternate universe in someone’s mind to help
them escape from their real-life problems for a while. The social aspect is also considered
fun because you are able to interact with friends and communicate with them and those
friends could be people you met from the game that only know you from your Gamertag or
