Aim of the Session
o To introduce the module and explore the concept of education through a
critical lens.
Objectives:

Module Aims
This module aims to:
o Develop knowledge of historical developments within the field of education
and contemporary educational issues.
o Develop awareness of key developments in the education profession,
including innovations and debates in technology-enhanced learning.
o Consider some of the major perspectives and theories in the psychology of
education.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
o Identify key social and cultural developments within education, relating
these to contemporary educational issues.
o Describe fundamental political and economic developments, which have
influenced changes in education.
o Identify and analyse contemporary issues in education.
o Describe applications of psychological theory and research to education.
Assessments
Six class tests- one to be completed after every 3 rd session.
A written assignment is to be submitted by the end of the module.

Each one of your six class tests will follow a preceding theme and will cover the
information discussed in that theme.
They will be conducted online.
When the test is scheduled, you will be asked to join the relevant online session and
further instructions on how to take the test securely will be provided to you.
Written Assessment
The other part of your assessment is a written assignment covering:
o The antecedent developments of the relationship between psychology and
education.
o The current relationship between psychology and education.
o Changes in the future relationship of psychology and education.
o Reflection on how practitioners can develop a critically enquiring approach to
new developments.
It is good practice to constantly engage with writing your assignment in draft form
and consider how each theme can be integrated into the final submission.
