In this assignment I will outline how NewVIc motivates its employees and I will
also compare how the motivation theories are used in Newvic. I will also suggest
and justify ways of improving motivation in an organisational setting.

Motivational Practices

Motivation is the set of reasons that helps determine to bring a postive behavior
in a person. There are many practices that motvates and helps trigger the
behavior of someone in a positive way that can be very helpful.

Reward Systems

These are the ethics, rules and events which are linked with sharing of benefits
and return to employees. They also contribute to motivation as workers are
rewarded with different types of benefits such as money or advancement to their
current position and this will help to increase employees willpower so that they
work hard.

The college has adopted these methods to apply incentives such as PSP; career
breaks etc. to Newvic staffs. This will enable them to work to the best of their
ability so they can produce good outcomes for the students and the college.
Newvic has applied PSP to the college staffs to motivate them to work efficiently
to a set of task and then reward them for their achievement. This push the
particular staff to work harder so they can be recognizes and receives the reward
such as promotion, increase in salary or certificate etc.

Taylor:

Taylor had his ideas put forward in a way that he believed that workers are only
motivated by money, his theory of Scientific Management urged that employees
naturally do not enjoy to work and hence they are required close supervision and
strict control. Hence managers should break the longer tasks into smaller ones
and employees should be handed the right equipment and adequate training so
that they can work efficiently on one particular task rather than worrying about
the longer ones. Employees are then paid according to the number of items they
manufacture in that given time period, which is called piece-rate pay. As a result
employees are motivated and more focused in the production as they are paid
for the products they manufacture. Many business today use Taylors theory as
they saw the increased income generated due to the productivity which also
overcomes the expenditures of the business as during the same number of hours
everything is used the same but the productivity increases.

Elton Mayo:

Elton Mayo believed that money is not the motivator but having their social
desires met whilst they worked motivated employees. Mayo also introduced
Human Relation School of though, that particularly focused on managers taking
more interest in the workers, treating them as the people who have a say in the
business which made employees smile whilst they interacted with each other.
But trying to find the real motivation amongst employee helped him to get on to
