Unit 4 – Managing an Event
Assignment 2

Planning an Event in the Light of Research

P3: Investigate the staging of several events to determine common success
factors
Event 1 : The London Olympics 2012

Olympic games are held every 4 years as a major global multi-sport event. It's always
happening in another country. In 2012 London has become the first city to hold the
modern games Olympics three times, having previously been the host in 1908 and
1948. A lot of redevelopment was needed to host these matches successfully, as a
brand-new building with 200 hectares of Olympic Park in East London has to be
opened while still using different sites. More than 250 committees participate in
these Olympics than nationally.
In order for the Olympics to be successful it had to consider several factors. The fans
in the UK provided an outstanding support. The environment, on the other hand, has
been ideal for athletes as it helped them with their performance.
However, it has not been successful just by the public and the environment. It was
therefore also the excellent marketing team who played an important role in this
event's success. If the marketing team did not do what they did, it would have been a
disaster. Marketing consisted of the leading companies with world-class service
providers and funding with a lot of experience. All of this has helped make the
Olympics successful. This also included the merchandise of the programme which
was shown on all major networks with fantastic sponsorships and licencing
programmes with all this making sure that it will 90% of the population.

,Health and safety was one of the main factors in considering how this event really
led to its success. Volunteers and Employees must be properly cared for. It was a
matter of priority. This is because the laws and standards in Europe and the United
Kingdom offer an appropriate protected atmosphere for working people. There were
40,000 people working on this event together. There was great leadership in
contributing to standards of health and safety that led to a very low accident rate
The London Olympics 2012 had been a massive success, as the volunteers, the
Britons who made it happen smoothly and the public enthusiasts gained amazing
reactions all over the world. However, some incidents occurred but in general, it was
a rated as successful event since competition standards were raised with great
results. The performance of these Olympics is a great national celebration of history.
Thus, after the games had shown a big sports legacy, the Olympic stadiums have
been kept and used in order to host the Olympics again. Therefore, the London
Olympics in 2012, which lifted the UK economy by £10 billion, was a financial
success.

Event 2 : The Royal Wedding 2018

f
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married before the entire world and the Royal
Wedding was the biggest wedding in the world. In 2012, there was the last Royal
Weeding.
There is no doubt that the nation was elevated when the happy occasion was
celebrated. But now there is even more justification to declare the day as a success.
According to Airbnb, royal wedding provided a major boost of more than £11 million
for the local economy. The royal wedding, unsurprisingly, has led to a rise in the
interest in booking, leading to an increase of 195 % of guests arriving in Windsor. It
also spurred interest in neighbouring towns, including Slough. Previous data from the
website estimates that the number of guests arriving in Slough has increased by

, 1437%, due to the nearness to the major event, just 10-15 minutes by car from
Windsor.

The location must have been available to everyone while maintaining the
conventional appearance and feel. Thus, the event was held outside of London at St
George's Chapel, and people were able to travel to it as it was not far from London.
The location was a traditional church, where the mother and brother of Harry both
had their marriages. The event also had to provide food up to the mark, because
many prominent guests attended the event and any food issue like food toxicity
would have been a bad image for the royal family and would have been a lot of
media coverage about it.
The event also required a good list of guests, suitable for all sides and all guests had
to be taken care of. All together the event was a huge success and was delighted in
the media because the BBC had one of the highest active views ever, beating any
wedding before its viewing ship.

Event 3 : iPhone X Launch

The name of the iPhone X was just enough to make the so appealing. The way it was
commercialised was to demonstrate the phone was from the future. Apple
has skipped the iPhone 9 and delivered the iPhone X to its customer, showing they
were saving 2 years from the future to bring the phone. This resulted in a big price
tag of £1,000 in the excitement of the product. It proved that it was worth £1,000
because of its marketing campaign. Apple's marketing campaign was fantastic, and
its consumers really got involved.
