In this report I will be investigating the key skills of an event organiser. This will
ultimately look at what skills and factors are required for an event to run successfully.
Some examples of key skills are leadership, organisation, teamwork, listening,
communication, and multi-tasking. There after I will be performing two skill audits on
myself to analyse my strengths and weaknesses as an event’s organiser.


There are many different skills required when planning an event as an organiser. For
example:


Organisation is important when planning an event because it helps keep the event
together and to stay focused on all the different tasks that you must balance at the same
time. For example, it would help me meet certain deadlines required, help keep on top
of any meeting that need to take place or it could help to make sure that goals are being
met.
Another skill required when planning an event is problem solving. This is crucial for
when planning an event because the skill helps to identify the things that need fixing
and improving. It also helps to break down tasks to get the right/strongest solutions.
For example, dealing with problems on the spot and situations effectively.
Time management is also another key skill when planning an event. Time management
is the ability to split your time up and spread it amongst different activities according to
their level. This is crucial for when planning an event because it allows you to use your
time more wisely for it to benefit you.
The next useful skill required is negotiation. Negotiation is the process by which you
come to common grounds between one or more parties. This is needed when planning
an event because it helps sorts differences when bargaining for the best deal. For
example, hassling the price of a hotel room from £200 to £150.
Communication is key when planning an event. Communication is the ability to interact
with someone, clearly and loudly to prevent any mis interpretations. This is needed
when planning an event because if instructions are not heard clearly then this could
change the whole event.
The last key skill required when planning an event is interpersonal skill. This is where
you use certain methods to interact with people. This is necessary when planning an
event because this skill tends to build better relations between colleges which leads to
work being done quicker and more efficiently.
