Ethyl Ethanoate
An organic ester compound, ethyl ethanoate, of acetic acid with ethyl
alcohol, it is a colourless solution which is highly volatile, best known in glues
and nail polish remover. This chemical is one of the simplest carboxylate
esters with the widest range of uses. This compound liquid has a
characteristically sweet, pleasant fruity odour. The chemical used for this
experiment must be handled with extreme caution as they are highly
corrosive and flammable. So, it is important to wear the right the required
protective equipment when working with them.
METHOD:
Stage 1: Making impure ethyl ethanoate:
1) First thing I did was to set up the whole equipment I was going to use
for this first step and wear my gloves ad goggles.
2) Then into a 100 cm3 round-bottomed flask and poured 25 cm3 of
ethanol together with 25 cm3 of glacial ethanoic. I mixed all contents
by swirling gently.
