Induction
Induction refers to the process of welcoming new employees into the organisation
and supporting them to be able to maintain their new roles and new workplace
environment. Induction assists new employees to make their place into a business
and give them a chance to show them the rules, regulations, values and procedures
within the business. Induction informs the new employees about the practices,
culture and performance of Amazon along with their health and safety Procedures.
Amazon has an induction programme for their employees to invite before joining
them to see if they will prefer to join Amazon or not. Amazon induction programmes
include; welcoming their employees, online or instore training, and based on day
training such as one day for 3.5 hours training. Amazon welcomes their employees
to meet their new colleagues and meet the manager of Amazon HR manager. During
the welcoming meeting of Amazon, Amazon gives their employees the login of their
accounts, gives them instructions on how to do their training process and for how
long their training would be and if Amazon employees do not complete their training,
they will not be able to start their job at Amazon. The purpose of induction is to
ensure the effective integration of staff into, or across, the business for the benefit of
both parties. This helps Amazon employees to get to know about their colleagues,
managers, and as well as visit the store before starting their training. This gives
opportunity to Amazon employees. The main goal of any induction programme
should be to properly teach new employees on the company's policies, culture, and
performance requirements, as well as safety procedures. Inductions are essential
because they create the company's initial image and establish the tone for the
employer-employee relationship. A poor induction might result in an employee
quitting the organisation or in an incident if the safety procedures are not properly
communicated.
C2 Benefits of a good induction programme and costs of a poor induction
programme.
An induction programme is SMART training that provides all the information needed
by new employees, and develops the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviour that
their posts require.
• Benefits of a good programme
The benefits of good induction training to Amazon saves a lot money and time as it
assists Amazon managers to get to know their employees, their history of
workplaces, salary, qualification and as well as they pick and choose who would be a
good employee to work with amazon. This induction programme is beneficial for
Amazon as it reduces staff turnover and it makes the new employee feel respected
and valued. This induction programme will give Amazon applicants to establish good
, communication with their colleagues and managers as well as help them understand
their roles. Amazon utilises the induction programme to give their new employees
authority and security to work with them, during the induction programme Amazon
makes their applicants be aware of what department they would work in, the timings
of their work and they will get a chance to know the Amazon as a whole.
The physical environment of the business is what the consumers feel about the
business, it consists of natural and man made components. natural environments
include; weathers, water, land, and atmosphere whereas man made component
refers to buildings, roads, products and appearance of store. Amazon makes their
employees familiar with the physical environment of the business so they would have
control over their physical work environment which would help them to improve their
performances, job satisfaction and as well as group cohesiveness.
Amazon culture is diversity, equity and inclusion. Amazon diverse and inclusive
teams positively impact their products and services, helping them provide better
customer service, selling products, hiring employees, and communities from all
backgrounds. Amazon doesn’t differentiate the ethnicity, culture of their employees
while hiring them, they only seek to make their brand gow and to be profitable.
Through the induction programme Amazon makes sure that their employees are
familiar with Amazon culture, procedures and policies. Amazon policies include,
employees should work 30 hours per week for 75% of their salary. Amazon works
core hours of 10am to 2 pm , Monday to Thursday and works the remaining hours
whenever they choose.another amazon policy is to never misrepresent yourself,
maintain their current information, and never list products that may cause harm to
amazon customers. All these policies are abided by Amazon employees to follow.
Amazon trains their employees to make sure they understand their responsibilities
well for example health and safety duties of employees. During the pandemic of
covid 19 Amazon health and safety responsibilities increased, Amazon employees
achieved their responsibilities by providing strategies to plan and organise work
systems to reduce health and safety risks and increase the sustainability by
adaptation to plants, machinery and processes. Amazon delivers a clean, safe, and
healthy workplace. Each employee is responsible for keeping the workplace safe
and healthy by complying to safety and health rules and regulations and reporting
incidents, injuries, and dangerous situations, procedures, or behaviours.
Amazon contracts with their employees in order to get guarantees that their
employees will perform their job as they are being trained and as well the Amazon
contract requires for employees to promise that they will stay with Amazon with their
contacted specific time and they will perform their duties as responsible. The
contract of employment duties is beneficial for Amazon. It helps them to keep a
record of their employees. If any crisis comes up, they would have evidence of
employment and contacts. Amazon improves their productivity of staff by utilising
data, monitoring and using technology to speed up the productivity of its warehouse
