Unit 1 – The Business Environment
Task 1 – Range of different Business Ownerships
P2:
Introduction:

In this task I will be creating a report with the purpose of describing who and how the different stake
holder groups influence the purpose of two contrasting businesses.

Key Stakeholders:

- Customers
- Employees
- Suppliers
- Owners
- Trade Unions
- Governments

McDonalds: “McDonald’s brand mission is to be our customers’ favourite place and way to eat and
drink. Our worldwide operations are aligned around a global strategy called, the plan to win,
which centre on an exceptional customer experience – People, Products, Place, Price and
Promotion;”

- Customers

The customers are able to both influence and be influenced by company related decisions. The
customers would have an impact on the decisions made within the company because of the fact that
without the customers the business will be unsuccessful, so keeping the customers happy and
content with purchasing their product is high priority. The customers as a group have the power to
have products changed, re-introduced or disbanded from the company’s portfolio, this is because
for example; if a new type of burger is introduced into the McDonald’s range and customers decide
either they don’t like it or it is not up to standard they will not purchase that product. This would
mean that the organisation would not be completing their company aim of providing an
“Exceptional customer experience” as customers would not be happy with the product in question –
this would also mean that the companies aim to make a profit would not be achieved as customers
would not be purchasing the product.

On the other hand the business decisions made can impact the customers because if McDonald’s
was to go into debt and company assets were seized as a consequence this could lead to a few
branches being closed down meaning that a group of the customers will no longer be able to
purchase the product form them, causing them to have to change a different source that could be
lower quality or not up to the right standards

- Employees

The Employees can influence business decisions due to the fact that without their employees
McDonald’s would have no one to prepare and sell the food to the customers. This means that
keeping employees in relatively good spirits is of great importance to the business, as if not kept
happy with the business decisions made as a unit the employees could go on strike meaning for a set
amount of time a branch would not be generating any income. In addition to this if the employees
