Introduction
In this unit, I will be investigating the principles of different project
management methodologies, and how they are used in the IT industries.
Furthermore, I will provide a successful IT project by using and
discovering at least three different project methodologies. In the end I
will be initiating this IT project to go further by researching a problem and
then using creative skills to generate an extensive range of solutions.
Agile methodology
Description-
A project can be managed using the Agile methodology by breaking it up
into phases. Throughout the process, stakeholders are constantly
consulted and continuous improvements are made. Planning, executing,
and evaluating are the steps teams follow once they begin working.
The 2 key aspects of Agile are linear action and customer involvement.
The Agile methodology is based on an iterative process where products
are delivered to customers in stages providing feedback and reviewing.
A sprint is a short period of time during which prioritised tasks are
completed. According to previous sprint results and customer feedback,
prioritised tasks change over time. Instead of prioritising all tasks in the
requirements phase at the outset, feedback is preferred.
Stages in Agile-
● Initiating- Firstly identify key stakeholders, Develop high level
project objectives and constraints. Formally authorised project and
project manager.
● Planning- Firstly for planning baselined budget and schedule, as
well as the overall scope, quality requirements, and budget are
developed, defined, and approved. In addition, plans should be
developed for procurement, risk management, and general
execution, integration, and communication. Finally, determine the
type of staffing needed for the project, and hire/acquire the key
members. As well, a plan to identify, analyse, and manage
external stakeholder expectations, including those who are neutral,
and those who are against the project.
, ● Executing- This is the phase where the project's deliverables are
actually created. During this period, the Project Manager is
responsible for overseeing the project staff, managing and
mitigating risks that threaten the project's success, and ensuring
that external stakeholders are appropriately engaged and their
expectations are met.
● Monitoring and controlling- The project manager is responsible
for monitoring, controlling, and evaluating the progress of the
project.
● Closing- This is where deliver the scope
Importance of the role in Agile methodology-
Product owner- The product owner understands what customers want,
then they can make adjustments accordingly. If marketing or sales
teams need product information, the Product Owner can offer valuable
insight.
Team lead- The team leader plays an important role in Agile, as they
provide leadership and guidance to the team. Team leader is
responsible for making sure the team is working together to achieve their
goals. Their 2 main responsibilities are making sure the team is following
the agile process and facilitating communication within the team.
Development team members-
Developers- They are in charge of programming, testing, and
debugging the product.
Designers- The designers are in charge of designing the product and its
user interface.
Testers- The testers make sure that everything works as it should be,
both before and after release.
Quality Assurance- QA is a team that monitors the quality of what is
being produced by checking for bugs and other issues.
Stakeholders - Stakeholders are essential to Agile teams since they
provide valuable input on what the product should be. Additionally, they
offer valuable insight into how to resolve any development-related
issues.
, Prince2 Agile case study-
Sony corporation-
Introduction-
Sony is a multinational corporation that offers consumer and
professional electronics, gaming, entertainment, and financial services.
In the customer and professional markets, this organisation is one of the
highest main suppliers of digital products.
As a second point, this organisation is capable of delivering equipment
that includes allowing users the ability to broadcast, software and media
solutions extended across Europe. The media solutions department
offers three useful business areas.
Project summary and outcomes-
As demonstrated in the summary of this project, Sony was able to use
PRINCE2 AGILE for managing development and distribution of
enhanced functionality for file-based workflow programs.
Sony has indicated a requirement in its relationship with PRINCE2 Agile
methodologies for selecting next upcoming features specifically for
development, thus increasing flexibility. By doing this, it would ensure
that the needs are always assessed and prioritised.
Pace with change-
It took approximately three to six months to come to an agreement on
the requirements that were needed with extra time being spent if there
were any extra considerations.
Firstly, Sony decided to take into account an agile-based methodology
after recognising the need to be able to respond to user requirements
more quickly.
Project solutions-
As a result, they decided to stay with an agile based complete era that
would assist in resolving and finding solutions in order to ensure that
new trends would always be applicable to their current needs, so that
they could respond to consumer wants more quickly. In addition, since
