Explain concepts of equality, diversity and
rights in relation to health & social care.
Mission Statement
In Lavenderbush care home, it is our aim to make sure that all of our residents’ are comfortable
and relaxed here, always having a great experience and time here. We always respect equality
and diversity in Lavenderbush as well as ensuring that the rights of all of our service users’
are respected and protected.
Lavenderbush care home was established in the cosy town of Stansted Abbotts in 1967, and
has only grown and flourished since then. Here at Lavenderbush care home, there are two
managers’, two trainee managers’, over 25 full-time care home assistants as well as support
workers’. We home 40 residents’ at any given time, meaning our care home assistants always
have time to really provide a personalised, special service for all residents’.
Our care home assistants’ are carefully selected, ensuring they have a minimum of five years
of experience in this area, to ensure that our residents’ are receiving the best quality service
of care. With almost 200 years combined experience between our care home assistants’, they
are trained efficiently and have plenty of experience dealing with lots’ of different kinds of
service users’; from all different backgrounds and cultures, disabilities and religions. We firmly
believe that to ensure we are promoting diversity within our care home, it is crucial to have
different culture days where we offer many different things from that particular culture. For
example, offering traditional foods from the culture, typical music as well as any other traditions
they may have. We also offer a vast range of foods daily from multiple different cultures,
ensuring there is always a huge variety of options so our residents’ are never limited when it
comes to meal times. As well as this, we have residents’ from many different cultures at
Lavenderbush care home, so offering food from their cultures daily makes them feel more
comfortable.
The care and happiness of our residents’ is at the heart of Lavenderbush, and part of ensuring
our residents’ are always happy in our care is regular training of our staff who care for them.
Any new members’ joining us at Lavenderbush care home have to undergo full training daily
for two weeks, prior to caring for our residents’. We also have compulsory training every four
months for all existing care assistants’ to ensure that they remain on the correct track of care.
Some training we provide our care staff with includes promoting and protecting the rights of
all of our residents’ at all times.
We encourage the family, representatives as well as the service users’ themselves to play an
active part in making a care plan. We know from experience that involving service users’, their
families and representatives produce the best results for the service user, and they are always
in the know of what their plan is if they are actively part of the production of the plan.
