1. Introduction

This experiment aims to model the maximum temperature curve of Faro, Portugal, and

determine the most appropriate model by looking at data gathered by the Instituto Português do Mar

e da Atmosfera (IPMA), the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, additionally the

maximum temperature of Moscow, Russia will also be modeled to analyze how the temperature

behavior varies within different climates.

Faro is the capital of the south region of Portugal called the Algarve. Algarve is also known

for its production of fruit, and vegetables, as well as the warm climate. According to the Köppen

climate classification, Faro is classified as a Csa, which is titled as Hot Mediterranean climate,

indicating hot and dry summers and moderate and rainy weather in the winter ("Köppen climate").

Taking into account the same classification system, Moscow’s climate is classified as Dfb also

known as a Humid continental climate, meaning that this region has four distinct seasons and large

seasonal temperature differences, with warm summers and cold winters ("Humid continental"). As

previously mentioned the agricultural industry is heavily present in the Algarve region, and since

I’m part of a family, which is involved within that industry it’s important to be aware of

temperature patterns, as organisms have optimum temperatures. Understanding the maximum

temperature throughout the year will allow farmers to plan the plantation of the crops according to

the needs of the organism, as well as plan for any potential actions that might be necessary if a

certain temperature is reached.
