Unit 6: work experience in health and social care
A1: developing skills and attributes.
Reflecting on your own skills and attributes and areas for development
Skills and attributes are a list of personal abilities and qualities and people learn overtime.
For example, being good at time management is a skill because it is an ability that a person
can do well and having patience is an attribute as it is a quality that contributes to your
personality.
Reflecting on your skills and attributes would help in your work experience as it makes you
think about areas you could improve and give yourself criticism, this will improve your work
ethic in your work experience and will increase your development.
Participating in work experience will benefit you because it will teach you things that you will
not learn in college or may learn new new about life, for example the time management is a
great skill as you need to able to work out what task to do at the certain times, you could be
put in placement in a care home and the manager will have a list of task for you to do and
you have to manage your time properly to make sure that you have not only enough time to
complete the tasks but also be organised to make sure the tasks are done correctly.
My strengths for both skills are having good listening skills. This will help me in health and
social care. I will have to listen to the patients and communicate with them and understand
their needs and if they want to share a story that they feel comfortable telling me,the patient
could also have other problems that they may have to explain and i have use active
listening also giving feedback .I am good at problem solving in certain situations. This is
relevant to health and social care as if i am treating a patient as they get even more ill and
the medication is not helping i will have to come up with solutions to help the individual and
check if they are in pain or if they need a different medication or find the cause as to why the
patient is getting sick.
Developing professionalism
To be professional means to comply with the standards set by the workplace and by the
regulatory bodies. This will include punctuality by being on time and never being late,
dressing appropriately, always finishing tasks to a high standard and on time.be professional
also means being respectful to everyone, listening a following procedures and policies of the
workplace.
Being professional in the workplace can help you develop skills as you are always effectively
communicating with other employees and finding a way to be productive like starting new
tasks after completing your other tasks. This is important because in the future employers
will be looking for new worker to hire who are responsible and reliable for people who know
how to complete their tasks on time, people who are team oriented to get along with people
and have good communication skills and also problem solving, to be able to handle different
situations on their own.
