The first step towards getting a job is knowing what type of job you are interested in. You
have to look for it and once you’ve found it, you should read carefully the requirements and
ensure you can accomplish them. Once you are sure you meet the requirements, then you
should apply for the job and submit the most updated CV you have and attach a cover letter.
An employer will have limited time to spend sifting through CVs and one that does not easily
impress could be quickly binned. The CV helps you get prepared for the interview because
you are able to put everything into one place. It contains everything that an employer would
need to know and space to put down everything that is relevant. Now, for the cover letter, it
allows you to express more before the interview process. It contains details about my
previous jobs and how you use the skills required in this position before. From the cover
letter, an employer would be able to tell what kind of person you are just by looking at it.
After you’ve done this, if the interviewer is impressed with your CV and cover letter, they
will contact you within 5-15 days, telling you to get prepared for an interview. You should
check if the day and time they’ve given you is alright for you, if not, you will have to contact
them back to change the appointment. Once you’ve cleared that off, it would be really
recommendable for you to check how long would it would take for you to get there. You
could use google maps and get different routes to get there, and the time you’ll spend on each
one, or you could go there a few days before the interview just to make sure you will be on
time.
For an interview, you should dress smartly to give a good impression to the interviewer. If
you are not sure on what you should wear for the interview, you can research what kind of
clothes are appropriate to wear. Another important thing is to leave home earlier, just in case,
as you could find yourself on a strike with trains or congested in traffic, and you don’t want
to portray a bad image of yourself. Also, when you go to a job interview, you can´t just say
the first thing that goes into your head. You must avoid slang as much as possible. This would
make you look professional, and it will also mean that you are paying attention to what the
interviewer is saying. You could practise this with your family or friends if you are not too
sure. Another important thing you must do in an interview is to maintain the eye contact and
have a good body language; an example would be to sit correctly.
Maintaining eye contact is really essential as it shows to the interviewer that you are engaged
on what he/she is asking and it really highlights the fact that you´re interested. If you are
nervous or struggling to get the answer you want, don´t look away, keep thinking and
maintain the eye contact so that the interviewer doesn´t think that you are not confident
enough or believes that you are not prepared for the job. You should also maintain a good
posture to show respect.
When I started looking for a job, I found a lot of choices, but most of them had requirements
of at least 3-5 years in the same or similar role. So, I decided to apply for this one as I saw it
reasonable and a good opportunity for me and my career. Before I applied, I read all the
requirements, bonuses and benefits they offered and I liked it. I started creating my CV and
