Unit 33 – P7 Kojar Ahmed

In this report, I will produce a personal development plan that aims to educate businesses on the use
of the internet and how using it can develop their business plan. I will comment on the following
online benefits to a business: Online shopping, blogs, social networking, finding work online, gaming,
news and so on. One aspect most businesses have tried to incorporate into their business is the use
of a website. A website allows consumers to browse and buy your products with very little effort. As
well as this, a website is open 24/7, making it always available for consumers. A website also makes it
easier for businesses to provide a good level of customer service to their consumers, this is because
it makes it easier and quicker for customers to communicate with the business, whether it be
through reviews or chat rooms. An important factor in how good a website is, is how user friendly
and easy to use it is, this is determined in several ways, for example, can customers easily navigate
between different sections and is the website free of bugs and glitches?

The use of the internet can help with daily shopping needs, for example, most large supermarkets
such as ASDA and Tesco allow customers to do their weekly shop online, this gives them the benefit
of not having to leave the house as the goods will be delivered directly to their door. This also
benefits the stores themselves because they are experiencing a larger influx of customers who may
not live close to an ASDA/Tesco. Incorporating online shopping is a big decision for smaller
businesses that do not have the resources/money ASDA or Tesco may have, this means they have a
lot more to lose and it may heavily affect their business plan. Online shopping also means the
business is open 24/7, allowing customers to browse and purchase products at every hour of the day.

One aspect of the internet a lot of manufacturers like to take advantage of is blogs. Blogs allow
consumers to use and experience a product and then write out what they thought was good about
the product and what can be improved. Some manufacturers will encourage this by actually sending
the product free of charge. Blogs allow the consumer to give a comprehensive review which will
reflect their experience with the product, this is often seen as a more genuine reaction to most
consumers and is therefore more likely to persuade or encourage sales. One of the reasons why
blogs are so influential is the reader likely knows the writer and has built a level of trust with them,
making them more influential when they are told a product is good or better than a competitor.

One other aspect that links to blogs is social networking. This can include things like YouTube,
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc. More and more retailers have started using social media as a
form of promotion, likely because it is much cheaper than paying for TV advertisements or billboards
etc. It has also proven to be a lot more effective than traditional advertising methods. Some
businesses nowadays enter the market with social media in mind, however, some have remained
unaware of the benefits the internet provides, and would therefore be heavily influenced if they
implemented the internet into their business plan.

Nowadays many new graduates or students are looking for a job which caters to their skills and/or
degree. Before the internet, this used to be done by physically talking to employers or by looking in a
newspaper etc. Recently, there has been an influx in sites which allow employees to look for jobs,
these are also used by employers to look for individuals who suit a specific role. One of the most
useful websites for this kind of interaction is LinkedIn. LinkedIn allows employees and candidates to
present their qualifications and skills in a professional manner, which is also accessible and visible to
a large pool of potential employers.

Some of the largest businesses to exist in 2018 are gaming companies, this is partly due to the ease
of advertising and the target market of the companies. The majority of consumers who are
interested in gaming use the internet, this means they are more likely to be exposed to advertising,
adverts usually come through various different sources, such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. One
