3A.P2 Explain how these diseases can be transmitted and contracted
There difference between transmitted and contracted is that transmitted is how the disease is
spread, however to contract is how you gain the disease. Certain conditions are needed for
micro-organisms to grow such as warmth, nutrients and proteins. This provides a source of
energy for the growth of micro-organisms and shows how diseases are transmitted. Diseases
can be contracted through food-borne which is poor cooking of food and water-borne which is
contaminated water (Rasheed et al 2018). In this assignment it will explain how different
diseases can be transmitted and contracted. Initially the assignment will focus on tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium called mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is a
contagious disease that affects individuals' lungs. Furthermore, this can then lead to the
individual getting a persistent cough that lasts more than 3 weeks which could be bloody and a
shortness of breath that could gradually get worse. Although tuberculosis is like the flu due to
them both being respiratory diseases, tuberculosis isn't as contagious (NHS choices 2023) for
example, an individual would have to spend prolonged periods in close contact with the infected
person to contract the disease themselves, meaning tuberculosis is easily spread through family
members as they live in the same residence however it is highly unlikely that an individual will be
able to contract the disease by sitting next to an infected person on the bus or train. If an
individual with active TB in their lung's coughs or sneezes and someone else is to inhale the
expelled droplets, they will then be transmitted to the disease of tuberculosis.
Continuing on, cholera is an infectious disease caused by an infection in the intestines which
cause projectile vomiting, severe diarrhea and symptoms of dehydration which makes feeling
extremely thirsty and dark pee. ((NHS choices 2023)) Fortunately, it is not found in the Uk as the
Uk is known to have modern sewage systems however the southeast of Asia and Africa is
typically high in cholera cases. Commonly, it is known to be transmitted via water-borne or food-
borne that has been which is typically known to be contaminated water and food which has
been handled by an infected person. To contract it, an individual must not have been cleaning
their vegetables and fruits correctly however the chances of contracting it whilst travelling is
acute as long as the individual by using tap water in an area where cholera is common. The
