Response to cellular injury
Cells and molecules of the host defence are brought via the circulation to where they are
needed
Acute inflammation:
Initial and short-lived response to injury
Develops over a short period of time
Characterized by:
Vasodilation= increased blood flow
Exudation-increased permeability of blood vessels to proteins,fluid,cells
Emigration of leukocytes from the circulation to the damaged tissue
Heat: increased blood flow
Rubor-increased blood flow
Tumour-increased blood flow and vascular permeability
Pain-Release of prostaglandins, neuropeptides and cytokines
Loss of function- damage to cells and connective tissue necessary for tissue function
