Merit – Report
In this report I will be assessing the efects of three factors which
afect inbound and domestic tourism.
Factor 1: Weather
Weather is one of the UK’s weak points and therefore the majority of the time it
impacts both domestic and inbound tourism negatively because it deters tourists
from either staying to the UK or fying here due to the bad weather. Whenever
the UK experiences a bad summer the following year tourist numbers are always
lower because people would much rather spend their summer in a hot
environment sunbathing and swimming in the sea which they can’t do in the UK
if the weather is bad. Moreover the UK has recently been experiencing extreme
weather such as storm Caroline which caused a lot of damage and travel
disruption such as trains being forced to stop running because it is simply too
dangerous. Furthermore this storm raised fears of death and injury causing many
domestic tourists to stay at home and inbound tourists to either cancel their
holiday or go home early due to their holiday being ruined. Also recently due to
extreme weather con ditions many fights have also been cancelled causing an
issue for inbound tourists to get to the UK, however on the other hand tourism in
the UK has grew in the last 2 years as summers have been warmer than usual
meaning domstic tourists don’t have to spend extra money to go abroad when
they can stay in their own country and visit a seaside nearby such as cornwall
which has some of the best beaches in the UK, this will lead to a larger volume of
inbound tourists and an inrease in frequency of visits mainly from countries
nearby where weather is colder than the UK.
Factor 2: Marketing campaigns
In my opinion marketing campaigns have a positive efect on the UK as they
attract many inbound and domestic tourists each year. For example the royal
family and especially royal weddings attract many inbound tourists from all
around the world because most countries have a president whereas the UK has a
Queen and monarchy. Due to this tourists gain interest in the history and culture
of the UK making them want to visit so they can see it for themselves. This may
include things such as Buckingham palace and the crown jewels. Furthermore
