P6 - Describe one local health or social care service provider identifing its place in
natonal provision.
In this assignment, I will be describing my health and social care placement which is a special educatonal needs class
in a primary school. I will also identiy where my placement fts in the natonal provision.

Firstly, my placement has many diferent aims. One example is to successiully get students through their primary
educaton so that they can go onto iurther educaton which is secondary school. hhis is done by teaching children
according to the curriculum, in order to prepare them ior natonal tests. Another example oi an aim is to provide an
environment in which children ieel happy and saie. hhis can be done by keeping the classroom clean, organised and
tdy, and making sure that there is a peaceiul learning environment. hhis is very important ior children who have
special educatonal needs, as a negatve environment can make it even harder ior them to learn and they already
have difcultes. Also, a peaceiul environment is essental ior these children because shoutng or being aggressive
towards the child will make their behaviour even worse. hhe last example oi an aim is to ensure equal opportunites
ior all pupils, the Equality Act states that everybody should be treated iairly. All children must be given the same
opportunites and cannot unlawiully be discriminated against due to their sex, race, disability, religion or beliei or
sexual orientaton.

hhe main role at my placement is to meet every child's special educatonal need and fnd a way oi teaching that
works ior each individual child. Since it is a special educatonal needs class, all the children in there have learning
difcultes and need extra support. Each child is unique and has their own individual way oi learning, and it is
important that the staf can fgure out each child's preierred way oi learning to make it easier ior them. For example,
some children may learn best through fash cards and others may learn best by using pictures. Furthermore, my
placement provides many services ior service users, such as one-to-one sessions, group sessions, P.E lessons, afer
school clubs, or school lunches. A service that is specifcally ior children with special educatonal needs is play
therapy, which is a way oi helping a child open up about their ieelings through play. Lastly, my placement has inter-
agency working, such as having walkie-talkie's in the classroom so that teachers can communicate with other staf
members to come and help them with a difcult child.

The main policies and legislatons relatng to mf placement are...

 Saieguarding Policf; hhe Saieguarding policy is applied because children's saiety comes frst. A procedure
that is done to ensure this is having chips that open the doors so that only adults can open them and no
children get out.
 Data Protecton Act; hhe Data Protecton Act is applied so that children's personal iniormaton is not given
out to strangers, as this can be a hazard. A procedure that is done to ensure this is not discussing personal
iniormaton outside oi the school. For example, mentoning a child's name outside oi school is not allowed.
 DBS checks; DBS checks are necessary in order ior someone to work with children, so that they are not put
at danger. A procedure that is done to ensure this is making sure that anyone that is coming in to work with
the children, ior example ior work experience, has a DBS check otherwise they will not be let in.
 Equalitf Act; hhe Equality Act is applied so that all children get equal opportunites and access to services.
However, children are not treated the same they are treated iairly, as they all have diferent needs. A
procedure that is done to ensure this is including all children in class actvites and discussions.
 Behaviour Policf; hhe behaviour policy is applied so that children can learn discipline and can learn good
interpersonal skills irom a young age. A procedure that is done to ensure this is praising children ior their
good behaviour, to encourage them to keep behaving.

hhe service users oi my placement are children with special educatonal needs, such as ADHD or atachment. hhese
children require more help and support to learn than other children their age. hhey have been classed as having
special educatonal needs to ensure that they can get the extra support that they need. hheir needs are met by being
