Unit 19 M1 - Compare the roles of the different members of a
team

Reezikassan Rameshkumar 40104702 Abuzar Atiffi

,Meredith Belbin’s Team Role Model
The Meredith Belbin’s theory is a way of looking how team members have different responsibilities,
strengths and weaknesses. In the theory he managed to identify eight different roles, he also argued that
teams do work more efficiently and effectively if each member of the team are able to have some
knowledge all the eight roles. From this it can also measure the team’s behaviour and can encourage the
teams to behave, contribute and to perform together as a team. In Belbin’s theory; he has shown praise
for the team members for them enhance their motivational levels to do better. Belbin’s theory also shows
that everyone should have a understanding to your role within any team, by understanding his theory
people can develop your strengths and improve upon their weaknesses as a team member.

,The Chair
The role of the chair is to be the team’s co-ordinator, so that means they will have to have a really strong
leadership skills as they have to make sure that all the plans, goals and aims are achieved by the team,
as the chair role is to make the team move to the right direction. As a chairperson they should usually be
confident as they making very important decisions that can help out the team altogether, they have to
build a close relationship with each team member.

,Advantages of the Chair
The advantage of the chair is that they are positive thinkers to help motivate the other team member to
reach their aims and objectives. They are also good listeners so they will be hearing any advices or ideas
from the other team members, but they are strong enough to disagree or reject their idea or input if it
does not seem to help the project in any way. Another advantage is that they are very confident so they
won’t stop from proceeding forward.

, Disadvantages of the Chair
The disadvantages of the chair is that they can be seen as being very manipulative for the team
members which can maybe demotivate them to do better. Another big and common disadvantage is that
as the chair is the close as being the leader in the group it can mean they are in the position where they
can offload all their own work to the other team members. This that specific member would have a lot of
work, and the chairperson would not be participating the in group, but would only take credit after
completing the the task.
