BADINERIE
The Badinerie was composed by Johan Sebastian Bach
between 1738 – 1739. It belongs to the Baroque Era (1600 –
1750) and is the seventh piece of Orchestral Suite No. 2.
In Badinerie, the cello and
MUSICAL FEATURES the flute play the melody.
• Basso Continuo The cello and harpsichord
• Terraced Dynamics play the accompaniment
• Imitation (Basso Continuo). The piece
• Scales has a homophonic texture
• Diatonic Harmony and is in binary form (AABB).
• Ornamentation The piece begins with an
anacrusis.
In the piece, the flute has a two-octave range and is based
around sequences. Trills and appoggiaturas are used
throughout. There are simple ostinato rhythms, forming the two
motifs – X and Y. The piece is mainly legato and is in 2/4
throughout.
