to communication.
The first scenario is explaining forthcoming court proceedings to a person
with learning difficulties. The first strategy to overcome any communication
barriers could be to build a relationship with the individual, this is important
because they will feel valued and respected. They may feel worried or
confused about the situation but if the professional is someone, they trust
then they may feel more secure and happy to open up. The professional
should have several one to one interaction with the individual so that they
don’t feel upset because they are confused. If the individual feels
comfortable talking to the professional because they have built a relationship
of trust, then they are more likely to open up about how they are feeling. The
communication between the professional and the service use should take
place in a private room so that the service user feels confident that what
they are talking about is confidential and that nobody else is around or
listening as this could cause stress for them. The second strategy which
could be used in this situation is assessment of the service users needs, if
the professional understands what the needs of the individual are then they
can get the support they require. For example, if the individuals learning
difficulty is autism then they can understand what support they will have to
give to them and also how they will communicate with them. The individual
could be vulnerable and if the professional understands this then they can
protect them and take action to get them out of the situation. An assessment
of needs helps the professional to understand who they are working with
