NEWTONS LAWS

NEWTONS FIRST LAW
Newton’s first law – an object continues in a state of rest or uniform velocity
unless it is acted upon by a net force
Inertia – the property of an object that causes it to resist a change in its state
of rest or uniform motion
 If an object has mass it has inertia
 The greater the mass the greater the inertia
 INTERTIA IS NOT A FORCE

NEWTONS SECOND LAW
Newton’s second law – when a net force is applied to an object it will
accelerate in the direction of the net force. This acceleration is directly
proportional to the net force and inversely proportional to the mass of the
object
Fnet = ma
Net force – a single force that has the same effect as the original forces acting
together

Fnet = ma

FT – Fg = ma
