was that millions of workers and their families lived in miserable conditions. Real wages
in industry declined. Strict laws even limited where workers could move. Also
collectivization was created which was a society in which private farm were eliminated
and the government owned all of the land, and the peasants worked it. The peasants

, resisted by hoarding crops and killing livestock. collectivization caused widespread
famine. 10 millions died of the famine.

Describe Stalins leadership style. What motivated his actions? What were his goals?
How were those around stalin impacted? - Answer-Stalin was a really unwilling to
compromise which made him a ultimate dictator of Russia. He was motivated by his
past peasantry life style because it made him aware of what it was like to be part of a
lower class also he wasn't Russia so he had a chip on his shoulder. Not inflexible when
it came to communism due to peasantry life as well. Stalins goals were to build a strong
communist Russia which should be economically sound and as nearly self sufficing as
possible, so as not to be dependent upon trade with capitalist competitors. Wanted to
industrialize Russia. Many died when Stalin was in charge due to his strong dictator
ship methods. Peasants resisted a lot due to collectivization with caused famine and
death of 10 millions people. Stalins desire to make all decisions led to the purge of old
bolsheviks and many army officials, diplomats, union officials, intellectuals and ordinary
citizens who opposed him.

Nicholas II - Answer-not strong leader (no confidence) was forced to abdicate due to his
bad handle on the country. Many issues with Russia when he was in charge. Was
murdered along with his family a year after he abdicated

Alexander Kerensky - Answer-Leader of Provisional government. Continued WW1 to
preserve Russia's honor.

Vladimir Lenin - Answer-Leader of Bolsheviks. Was a radical communist who believed
in equality for all and "peace, land bread". Edited marxism so that instead of just worker
class in proletariat it was both working class and peasantry. Pulled Russia out do WW1.
Created NEP which saved the Soviet Union from complete economic disaster.

Leon Trotsky - Answer-Russian revolutionary intellectual and close adviser to
Lenin.Military genius. Helped win civil war. A leader of the Bolshevik Revolution (1917),
he was later expelled from the Communist Party (1927) and banished (1929) for his
opposition to the authoritarianism of Stalin. Lost to Stalin because of his decision to
spread communism which would ultimately lead to more war Russian could not take.
Believed in spreading communism. Did no agree with the NEP and its concession to the
peasants.

Georgi Plekhanov - Answer-Leader of the Mensheviks.

Joseph Stalin - Answer-Part of Politburo. Won over Leon Trotsky when lenin died and
power struggle began because of his ability to elect his friends and allies. Created
dictatorship in which he established 5 year plan and collectivization. Believed in
industrializing Russia to make it self sufficing. Killed many people.
