Unit 6 Assignment 1
A.P1 Compare the principles of website design used in two
websites, including their suitability for the intended audience
and intended purpose.

Website Choices

Website Choice 1
Shein

,Website Choice 2
British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)

Purpose of Website
Website Choice 1
The online platform called Shein is mainly focused on e-commerce and
allows people to register as sellers and buyers. It serves as an
international fashion and lifestyle platform through which sellers can sell
their products to customers globally. Moreover, it enables the seller to
build a healthy relationship with customers, by designing a feature that
allows consumers to give reviews on products they purchased. On the site
there are products like clothes, home ware, cosmetics and accessories for
sale. The reason it has become so popular is because of how affordable
things are on this website which also includes free shipping.

Website Choice 2
After having reviewed the BCC website, I realised the purpose of the
website was majorly for entertainment and education usage for the
people majorly around UK as well as international. This website also
involves TV series for different age group, a radio channel included as
other services like News, Sports, Weather forecast, music and podcasts.
This expending the usage of the website, as it can be used to navigate to
different pages which includes different services.
Target Audience 1

Shein major target audience are individuals who prioritise online shopping
over anything else. Their main audience in the e-commerce business will
be the Gen Z customers, and this is because of their endless purchase of
items especially online. This is why Shein tries to make their website

,appealing to the young by social media, reducing prices and also using
popular celebrities. From daxue statistics, it shows that 17.84% of Shein
followers are aged from 18 to 24 years and 30.65% were aged from 25 to
34 years old. This shows that the majority of individuals that uses Shein
are young ones with at least a job or a means of earning.

Target Audience 2
e.g. social networker, seekers, gamers, buyers, age, profile, geographical location, gender

BBC performed a survey on their audience about their website to find out
the percentage on the average people that visits their website. This was
in 2021 when they performed the survey on about 2,180 users, whereby
they found out that the major age group that uses BBC website was from
the age of 16 years to 34 years which were about 44%, in which 58% of
that age group (16-34 years) were only females.

Website Requirements 1
e.g. User-friendly, consistent, navigational, customisable, flexible

User-friendly- Shein tries to make sure that it is easy for users learns how
to interact with their website. This is done by easy navigation, visibility on
the search bar as well as the promo pop outs. Although, the page
navigation seems to be a little small for visibility.
Consistent- Shein tends to be consistent in their golden ratio, in which on
their navigation animation they divided each page into 3 sections, one to
switch between other pages, second for the categories, while the third
was for the details under the category. While on it each page, the ratio
was divided into 2 which the left side was for filtering while the right side
was use for product listing.
Navigation- This was one of Shein greatest strength in their website, as
after testing the website, it was very easy to navigate. This is because of
the quick interaction with each nav page. Shein made it easier to
navigate from categories to even features on products. Also, they made it
easy to navigate from the top of the website to the bottom, which
includes the socials of Shein.
Customisable- Shein majorly makes use of customisation in terms of
promotion of products. This can be done when users register their google
account to Shein server, then Shein optimizes their users searches on a
browser, in which they then make sure of that to promo similar products
to the users.
