Purpose of the Module Designed for Level 7 (MSc/MRes) students with diverse academic backgrounds.
Lectures cover quantitative and qualitative research design basics.
Seminars and labs help students integrate research design and statistical analysi to
become thoughtful contributors to research.
Module Structure
Lectures
Held weekly on Mondays (5:00 - 7:00 pm) during the Autumn Term.
First 5 weeks: Quantitative approaches.
Last 5 weeks: Qualitative approaches.
Seminars
Seminars are scheduled starting the week before reading week:
Group 1: Mondays, 2:00 - 3:00 pm.
Group 2: Mondays, 3:00 - 4:00 pm.
Group 3: Mondays, 4:00 - 5:00 pm.
Based on Abelson’s (1995) “Statistics as Principled Argument”.
o Each group will present a chapter from the book.
