Purpose of the Module
 Designed for Level 7 (MSc/MRes) students with diverse academic backgrounds.
 Lectures cover quantitative and qualitative research design basics.
 Seminars and labs help students integrate research design and statistical analysi to
become thoughtful contributors to research.

Module Structure
Lectures

 Held weekly on Mondays (5:00 - 7:00 pm) during the Autumn Term.
 First 5 weeks: Quantitative approaches.
 Last 5 weeks: Qualitative approaches.

Seminars

 Seminars are scheduled starting the week before reading week:
 Group 1: Mondays, 2:00 - 3:00 pm.
 Group 2: Mondays, 3:00 - 4:00 pm.
 Group 3: Mondays, 4:00 - 5:00 pm.
 Based on Abelson’s (1995) “Statistics as Principled Argument”.
o Each group will present a chapter from the book.
