This was the hardest assignment that I have done so far. Everyone complained about writing this one you have to pick a piece of research then research that research and decide if it is good or bad qualitative or quantitative etc

The School of Health and Social Care guidelines for presentation and referencing,
will be followed during this assignment (Teesside University 2022). This assignment
looked into the importance of applying research findings in health and social care. It
demonstrates how to create a searchable question and relevant evidence for the
article. The article is critically appraised using recognised frameworks. There are
several frameworks commentators use to assess the methodological
appropriateness of the chosen article, such as CASP and McMasters, but the
framework of Raby and McNaughton (2021) will be used in this assignment. The
Raby and McNaughton (2021) framework provides a structured method for critically
appraising research evidence that is particularly useful in clinical practise. According
to Watson (2020), conducting a literature search can be difficult, but the process can
be simplified by breaking it down into smaller steps.

Evidence based practice (EBP) according to Eggleston, (2023) is the conscientious
use of current best evidence in making decisions about patient care. Whereby
Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt (2019) defines (EBP) as a problem-solving approach to
clinical decision making that combines a clinician's experience with the best available
research evidence with a patient's values and preferences. (EBP) involves the ability
to access, summarise and apply information from the literature to day-to-day clinical
problems which nurses may face in practice. However Ezeruigbo, (2023) states that
many nurses still lack the skills needed to effectively use (EBP). Nurses must make
a lot of decisions that have an immediate influence on patient care. For this reason, it
is crucial to develop and assess new theories as well as modify and revise existing
ones to consider the latest medical knowledge and technological advancements.
According to O'Connor et al (2023), theory research and nursing are inextricably
linked, as is decision-making and nursing practice. Nurses use evidence to support
and inform their actions and decision-making processes. Increasing systematic
information for decision-making is critical and important. The NMC code (2018)
states that nurses should always practise based on the best available evidence, and
that any information or advice given must be evidence-based, including information
about the use of any health and care products or services. Nurses conduct research
to gain a better understanding of the information they relay to patients. According to
Madjid et al. (2014), the more appropriate our actions are, the better the knowledge
is perceived.

,Muir-Grey was the first to describe evidence-based practice (EBP) in the literature,
defining it as 'an approach to decision-making in which the clinician uses the best
available information in conversation with the patient to decide upon the choice that
serves the patient best (Muir, 1997). Since its first formulation in 1997, EBP has
gained recognition as the gold standard for delivering safe and effective health care
(Kumah et al., 2022). Research has indicated that certain factors restrict the scope of
evidence-based practice (EBP),these include deficiency in knowledge and expertise,
inadequate time for locating research reports, challenges in comprehending research
reports, insufficient resources, restricted support, insufficient financial, material, and
human resources, and inadequate training in research methods (Pitsillidou et al.,
2021).

The phrase research means many things to different individuals, but it is about
discovering new information that may lead to improvements in treatments,
legislation, or services (Polit-O’hara and Cheryl Tatano Beck, 2008). The definition
used by NHS England, (2023) “The attempt to derive generalisable new knowledge
by addressing clearly defined questions with systematic and rigorous methods.”
However, Macleod Clark and hockey (1989) define research as an attempt to
increase the sum of what is known, usually referred to as a “body of knowledge” by
the discovery of new facts or relationships through a process of systematic scientific
enquiry. The research processes “According to Booth et al, (2008) research is a
cycle that starts with a real-world issue that needs to be understood in order to
determine its significance. A question must be the starting point of research, and in
order for it to be asked, it must be significant and relevant to the roles of the nurse.
The primary role of a professional nurse will always remain to be the clients
advocate and provide optimal care based on evidence obtained through research
(Tingen et al., 2019). A good question will lead to an answer in which will improve
someone’s life in some way. A good reason for performing the research makes it
ethical. According to Naidoo, (2011), research must be predicted based on
substance and appropriate relevance else, it is both pointless and unethical.
Research plays a vital part in the nursing profession because nurses must be able to
read and evaluate research in order to stay up to date with current knowledge and
base their own policy and practice on research findings. Nurses must be prepared to
investigate issues of research, leadership, and management. According to Tingen et

, al (2019), research is necessary to expand the scope of the nursing profession and
change its viewpoint. According to NHS England (2021), research gives nurses the
ability to tackle problems and spot opportunities in areas like patient safety,
individualised care, health promotion, and technology-enhanced outcomes. This
procedure makes it possible to create new concepts, improve healthcare
procedures, and provide better services.

There has been debate of the different approaches to research i.e. quantitative or
qualitative and various researchers will have a preferred method in which they would
use. However (Aveyard and Sharp, 2017) state that the debate is meaningless
because quantitative and qualitative approaches look at different things, or several
aspects of the same problem. It is not possible or helpful to say that one is better
than the other (Lakshman et al., 2000). The quantitative research (Quan-R) method
is defined as a type of research that systematically examines phenomena, tests
relationships between variables, and provides precise measurement and numerical
data through statistical analysis (Tappen, 2021). According to Bloomfield and Fisher,
(2019) the goal of Quan-R is to obtain a greater understanding of the world by
assessing the effectiveness of interventions. It aims for objectivity through theory and
hypothesis testing using scientific methods. The qualitative research (Qual-R)
method is a type of research that investigates and provides deeper knowledge,
understanding, and insights into real-life situations and individuals' lived experiences.
The Qual-R method is designed to collect narrative information to gain insights and
understanding, avoiding numerical values and statistics (Denny and Weckesser,
2019). The Qual-R method addresses the five W's (why, where, when, who, and
what) as well as how, depending on the design, enabling deeper identification,
perception, and recognition of experiences, phenomena, and context (Lina Najib
Kawar et al., 2024). Secondary research occurs when the author of the source that is
used collects existing data, typically produced by someone else, and then reports,
analyses, or interprets that other person's findings. Data collecting is vital in
statistical analysis. There are numerous ways used in research to collect information,
all of which fall into two categories: primary data and secondary data (Douglas,
2015). Secondary equals second-hand; the author of the source did not create the
research data he or she is employing (LeBlanc, 2023). However the method utilised
in the chosen paper doll therapy as a first line treatment for behavioural and
