, In the non-specialist laboratory design created there are multiple key features that have
been placed there for specific reasons.
WINDOW – In the designed laboratory, there are 3 large windows which allow more air and light
into the laboratory.
DOOR – There is a door in the designed laboratory plan, that allows an entrance and exit to and
from the laboratory. It can also be closed when carrying out experiments.
WORKSURFACES – The laboratory design has 3 worksurfaces that are well spaced apart. They
allow anyone entering the laboratory to work on its surface
STORAGE UNIT – here is one storage unit in the plan. This is so the laboratory can be kept clean
and tidy by putting all pieces of equipment away in the assigned places of the storage unit.
CHAIR – here is a total of twelve chairs in the laboratory which means a total of twelve people
can enter the laboratory, sit down and work at the worksurface.
SINK – In the laboratory design there is a sink on each worksurface so the people on it can carry
out their experiments without having to walk around the laboratory to pour a liquid down the
drain. There are also two sinks on the storage unit which can be used for quick washing.
EYE-WASH STATION – There is one eye-wash station near the door for health and safety
reasons. If someone gets a liquid that is an irritant in their eye, then the eye needs to be washed
with clean water to get rid of that liquid.
PPE – The personal protective equipment is placed at the front of the laboratory, which includes
lab coats, protective glasses and gloves.
GAS TAP – There are two gas taps placed on each worksurface that provide gas for Bunsen
burners to function. The two gas taps on each worksurface mean that two pairs can carry out
experiments on each work surface or even individually due to a gas tap having two spouts.
WHITEBOARD – In the laboratory design, there is a whiteboard placed at the front, which is
useful if calculations or methods need to be written down.
