Background of amazon: amazon was founded in July 1994 by Jeff Bezos in Seattle
Washington as a e commerce business. Over the years Amazon was able to grow and
expand successfully throughout the world bringing in more customers and employees to
keep up with demand and with that the business adapted a more suitable method to recruit
more staff of which I'm going to explain right now.
Amazons method of recruitment process: once candidates have applied to their job; they
will go through a series of interview before being selected among others that also applied
the same job as you. A candidate will usually see up to 2 to 7 Amazonians based upon the
role he or she is being interviewed for. They include managers, team members, key
stakeholders from related teams and a “bar raisers”.
This is how Amazon usually recruit candidates around the globe but with the current
pandemic that is still spreading, amazon has adapted its recruitment process during this
time so they can keep up with increasing demands from customers and the way they did
that is by using digital online interview so instead by going through multiple sets of
interview from Amazonians you have to go through one digitally or from a phone call which
can keep and individual safe but using this method also have its downside too, for example
from the interviewer perspective, you wouldn’t know if the candidates social skill aren't up
to standard then what you might expect.
The reason why amazon chose this recruitment process (not from the pandemic one) is
because it would give a lot of great development opportunities and career progression upon
a candidate.

, Amazon internal and external recruitment:
Amazon would recruit both recruits internally and externally but in the recent years, we
have seen Amazon slowly phasing out its hiring process of using external hiring in favour of
filling more positions with internal transfers.
The reason why Amazon would recruit more internally would be because it’s more cost-
efficient hiring internally then externally. Another advantage of Amazon hiring internally is
because it improves employee engagement which is one of Amazon objective of which they
want to achieve among the staff.
However, using internal hiring process do have its downside too for example, Amazon may
struggle to innovate since they can’t hire a person outside the business that has new fresh
innovative ideas for Amazon. Another con Amazon might face using internal recruitment is
that opportunity to bring new skill for the business will also be missed.
Therefore, some hire ups in Amazon still finds using external recruitment more favourable
since it is easy for them to bring more recruit that has more innovative ideas idea and
somebody that can introduce new skills and knowledge towards Amazon. But this will cost
Amazon a lot more to recruit and there would also be a chance where Amazon might recruit
someone unsuitable for the task which is a big disadvantage.
Amazon recruitment process that is ethical and comply with current employment law:
Equality act of 2010- equality act legally protects individual from discrimination, harassment
and victimization in workplaces and/or wider range of society.
It is important for Amazon to implement this law to their recruitment process because this
law will bring a positive impact upon the business by giving the employers more morale's to
work under the same business while respecting the other staff despite their differences.
However, if Amazon doesn’t follow this law then the impact can be quite severe on the new
recruits as there isn't a staff that would respect them which in turn would give the recruit a
loss of earnings, this would make the workplace more hostile making less and less people
sign up and apply to work on Amazon.
Employment Act- this act would cover the rights of employees in the UK in situations such as
paternity leave, maternity leave, redundancy etc. The reason why this is important for
business like Amazon to implement this in their workplace is because this law exists to
regulate relationships and interaction between employers and employees. The aim of this
act is to ensure a fair process is held in all areas of the business. Which is why it is important
for Amazon to implement this law since it will create a more positive working environment
for the new recruits and could also improve Amazon reputation among customers as well.
Ethical obligations- ethical obligation is a moral requirement to follow up a certain course of
action. This would relate a lot towards the employers since they have an obligation to
