The body needs some cholesterol to work properly. But high levels of cholesterol in the blood can block arteries and increase the risk of heart disease. Plaque Placa; A deposit, build-up of fatty material, cellular waste products, calcium and other substances on the inner lining of an arterial wall. Atherosclerosis Ateroesclerosis: a disease when arteries harden and become narrower due to the plaque. High blood pressure Syn.
