he never explained why the thought occurred to him. It has been suggested that
he might have been thinking about a patent application for an elevator.
● Special Relativity is based upon the same physical principles as General
Relativity.
● The predictions and results arising from Special Relativity are widely publicized,
yet General Relativity is much less widely known.

● General Relativity is a theory of gravity, and will one day be replaced by some
other ideas that match experiment and observation better.
● Physicists are constantly testing the predictions of General Relativity, and one
day someone will find a chink in its armour.
● Inertial and non-inertial frames of reference are defined as above, and real forces
can occur in both. Pseudo forces occur in non-inertial frames of reference, and
arise because the frame of reference is moving in a way that causes the object's
movement to diverge from Newton's first law of motion.
● Pseudo (inertial) forces result from non-inertial frames of reference, real forces
exist in both, and pseudo forces disappear within the correct frame of reference.

car broke down, you felt a pseudo force from the car seat pushing you forward.
● If you pushed on the steering wheel and the seat pushed back on you, the forces
were in balance and you did not accelerate within the frame of reference given by
