-Raised in Chicago, but spent time in norther Michian where he learned to hunt, fish and play outdoords
-Parents:Clarence Edmonds Hemingway (doctor) and Grace Hall Hemingway (music teacher)
-Highschool: Worked on the newspaper called Trapeze and Tabula that wasabout sports
-At the age of 17: employed as a writer in a newspaper office in Kansas City named Kansas City Star instead of going
to college
-Repeatedly rejected for military service because of a defective eye, but managed to enter WWI as a ambulance
driver for the American Red Cross at 18 years old

-1918: Ambulance driver in the Italian Army to serve in World War I (after the United States enterred the WWI)
-Awarded the Italian Silver Medal of Bravery
-Suffered from injuries that landed him in a hospital in Milan by bein wounded servin at the front
-Where he met Agnes con Kurowsky, a nurse who accepted his proposal of marriage, but later lef him foranother
man
-That experience was used for his works ‘’A Very Short Story’’ and ‘’A Farewell to Arms’’ (1929)
-Reported in the Spanish Civil War, he used his experiences as the backround for his novel: For Whom the Bell Tolls
(1940)
